DescriptionThe whole story▼
Namib is named after a desert and works red against exposed carbon weave — the most restrained way of adding a colour to a bare shell without covering it. One accent, one construction, nothing else.
Three modes in one shell
The chin bar area carries X-Foam EPP bumpers across the whole lower shell, which is one of the reasons the Off-Road configuration is more than a marketing mode — the helmet was engineered for impacts that arrive at the bottom of the shell rather than the top.
The peak, the visor and the goggles all mount around that.
| Mode | Peak | Eye protection | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual-Sport | fitted | Recoil visor | mixed days, low sun, spray |
| Off-Road | fitted | goggles (not supplied) | trail and enduro, maximum airflow |
| On-Road | removed | Recoil visor | motorway transfers — the quietest setting |
About the Namib Carbon Red graphic
Single-accent graphics on exposed weave are a genuinely different proposition from full liveries, and they age far better. Because the carbon does most of the visual work and the red is an accent rather than a field, there is no palette to date — the helmet will look the same in five years as it does now. The red also gives the shell a reference point that pure weave lacks, which makes the shape read more clearly. 🔵 The exposed areas carry the usual caveat: a scratch into the weave cannot be repaired, and this helmet will meet stones off-road.
The X-PRO Carbon shell and the X-Foam bumpers
🔵 If you are weighing carbon against composite in this range, the honest summary is: 125 g on paper, a noticeable step in price, and no difference in approvals, features or protection standard.
Both shells carry X-Foam EPP bumpers across the lower shell and chin, and both are homologated to ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC and NBR.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | six-layer fibreglass composite | 1475 g | Plain, YUMA |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) | PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 |
The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box
The Recoil mechanism is the part of this helmet most likely to sell it to you in a shop, because it feels different from a conventional visor immediately — the shield pulls itself into the seal rather than clicking into a detent.
Both supplied shields, clear and photochromic, run on it, and the clear one comes with the Pinlock lens fitted.
Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them
The cheek-pad vents are the ones most likely to be blocked in practice, because they sit where a collar, a neck tube or a hydration strap ends up. Worth checking if the helmet feels warmer than it should.
🔵 The system as a whole — 9 in, 6 out, plus the Air Cumbs chamber — scored 2/5 on measurement in one test and was praised in another.
How loud it actually is
Noise fatigue is cumulative over a riding day in a way that a single measurement cannot convey. A helmet at 103 dB is perfectly manageable for an hour and genuinely tiring over six — which is the argument for earplugs rather than for a different helmet.
🔵 The independent score was 3/5, mid-field for a peaked adventure helmet.
Interior, hydration routing and fit
🔵 Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description can settle for you. A loose helmet moves under braking and rotates in a crash; a tight one produces a headache at forty minutes.
The X.RALLY was independently found true to size, intermediate-to-long oval, and roomy. Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes.
1350 grams claimed, 1553 measured
🔵 No independent safety rating exists for this helmet. SHARP has not tested the X.RALLY in either shell, and there is no ADAC or Snell result. That means untested rather than poorly rated — but it is a gap in the evidence and worth knowing.
What has been measured: noise at 103 dB, and weight at 1553 g in size M against a claimed 1350 g.
Where it sits — and who should buy something else
Three outer shell sizes, eight helmet sizes, two shell constructions and twenty-one finishes make this the widest single-model range Nexx offers — which is why the specification tables on these pages differ between versions.
🔵 Read the shell line in the specification below; it is the one thing that genuinely changes between them.
Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts
The serviceable parts list on this helmet is longer than most: peak, clear visor, photochromic shield, Pinlock lens, cheek pads, liner, chin-strap covers and the camera mount kit.
🔵 Between them they cover everything except the shell, the EPS liner and the X-Foam bumper layer.
