MT-Helmets Track SV Nomad C0 Adventure Helmet – Gloss White / Navy

White shell, deep blue rear quarter, a red band along the join. Nomad C0 is the brightest Track SV MT builds, and on an adventure helmet a white shell is not only a styling choice — it is the one that stays coolest in the sun and shows dust the least readily against a light ground.

About the Nomad C0 finish

Gloss. The front two thirds of the shell, the peak and the chin bar are white; from behind the visor mechanism the shell steps into a deep navy that wraps the rear, and a red band marks the transition. The MT logo sits in navy on the white flank, and a small badge sits at the crown.

Three colours, split by area rather than by graphic. It photographs well and, more usefully, it stays legible from a distance — the eye reads a two-tone shell as an object at ranges where a busy graphic has already turned into texture.

A white helmet in the sun

There is measurable physics here rather than a preference. A white shell reflects most of the solar radiation that hits it; a black one absorbs it and re-radiates it inward. On a stationary bike in summer the difference in the temperature of the shell is large enough to feel with a hand, and an adventure helmet spends more time stationary in the sun than most — at map stops, at gates, at the top of climbs.

The cost is dirt. On a gravel road you will be cleaning this helmet more often than you would a grey one. Never wipe it dry; a wet cloth first, always.

The one independently rated helmet MT makes

Four stars out of five from SHARP, the UK Department for Transport's helmet programme. It is the only such result in MT's entire range, and the reason we recommend this model to riders who want an objective number rather than a brochure.

The rating comes from destroying 32 retail-bought examples across seven sites at three speeds — which is a much larger sample than a homologation run, and one the manufacturer has no way to prepare for. It measures straight-line energy absorption. Rotation, noise, comfort and durability are outside its scope, and the result belongs to the Track SV and to nothing else we stock from this brand.

Visibility, and the limits of a light helmet

A white shell is a genuine daylight advantage, and for a slightly different reason than a fluorescent one. Fluorescence beats white in flat, overcast light; plain white beats almost everything in bright sun, where it is the highest-contrast object against tarmac, hedgerow and shadow alike. In practice a white helmet is the most consistently visible choice across the widest range of daytime conditions.

And the same limit applies as to every colour: none of it works at night. A white shell photographs beautifully in daylight and is invisible at 11 pm on an unlit road. Reflective panels on the jacket, a working headlight and lane position do the night-time work — paint does not.

ERS — designed for being found by a stranger

ERS, the Emergency Release System, is a pair of red tabs at the cheek pads. Pulling them withdraws the pads sideways, which frees enough room to slide the helmet off a casualty without lifting or rotating the head.

Think about where an adventure helmet is used. It is worn on roads where the person who reaches you first is another rider or a farmer, not a paramedic — and the instinct of an untrained helper is to pull a helmet straight off, which is exactly the wrong movement if the neck is injured. A system that gives them a correct thing to do with their hands is worth more than it costs.

ECE 22.06 · no DOT marking

Mandatory since January 2024: 18 impact points rather than five, several speeds, an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil that finally measures rotational loading, and a Brain Injury Criterion limit.

Unlike several of MT's road helmets, the Track SV carries no published DOT approval. We say so rather than let the omission pass.

Visor, goggles, peak

The HS-12 screen comes off without tools and the eye port takes goggles. The peak shades low sun and blocks roost, and above roughly 120 km/h it generates lift and a load on your neck when you turn your head — the standing trade of the category.

The MT-ESP sun visor

A retractable shade with extended coverage. On a white helmet it does a second job: light bounces up off a pale chin bar into your eyes on a bright day, and a dropped shade cuts that too.

Anti-fog

Prepared for Pinlock DKS 623 and FogOff inserts. Neither is included.

Buy one if you ride in the cold. Slow technical riding produces a lot of breath and almost no airflow — the exact conditions that fog a visor, and the ones where a fogged visor is most dangerous.

Liner and weight

Removable, washable, in an antibacterial quick-drying fabric — the fabric choice matters on a helmet used for physical riding, and it is what lets you wash a liner on a trip and ride the next morning. MT publishes 1,500 g, light for a peaked helmet with an internal shade.

One practical habit worth forming on a white helmet: take the liner out at the end of a trip rather than at the start of the next one. A damp liner left inside a closed helmet in a garage is how the smell that never quite goes away begins, and it happens in about four days. Out, washed, air-dried away from heat, back in.

Do not put the pads in a washing machine or a tumble dryer, however tempting. The foam inside them is closed-cell and does not survive a spin cycle intact — it comes back flatter, and a flattened cheek pad is a helmet that has quietly become a size too big.
