DescriptionThe whole story▼

Broken tarmac, a level crossing laid at an awkward angle, the cobbled high street of an old village: on surfaces like these, many riders of the KTM 690 Duke R rise off the seat and let the bike move underneath them. Standing up puts the rider's entire weight on two small pieces of metal, and the footpegs suddenly become the most important contact point on the motorcycle. Accossato's FT102 touring footpegs for the 690 Duke R of 2013 to 2017 are CNC-machined aluminium with a notch designed to keep a boot where you put it.

Key Features

  • Touring footpegs for the KTM 690 Duke R, 2013 to 2017
  • CNC-worked aluminium
  • Black anodised with a red insert
  • Notch for extra boot grip, according to Accossato
  • Front or rear footpegs, each sold as its own version
  • Listed by Accossato for the Duke 690 R with ABS
  • No documented German ABE; intended for the track

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium, milled by CNC machines and anodised in black, forms the body of each FT102 peg, and a red insert breaks up the dark finish. Accossato adds a special notch with a single purpose: to stop the boot from losing its grip. The rest of the design follows that aim. The company's own history reaches into off-road sport, with an Enduro world title in 1985.

Up on the Pegs

Standing on a road bike is not only for adventure riders. When the surface turns rough, lifting your weight off the seat lets the suspension deal with the bumps without the rider's mass bouncing on top of it, and the bike stays calmer as a result. The technique is easy to learn: knees slightly bent, weight on the balls of the feet, lower legs lightly against the bike and hands relaxed on the bar. The whole load now rests on the pegs, and any slip of a boot shifts your balance at once.

That is where a notched surface earns its place. A sole that has picked up dust, damp grass or a film of diesel can slide on smooth metal, especially when the bike pitches over a ridge in the road. With the FT102 the tread has an edge to hook into. Practise standing on private ground at walking pace before you try it where the surface is uneven, and sit back down smoothly before you brake for a junction. On the slim 690 Duke R, with little bulk between the knees, the standing position comes easily once the feet feel secure.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FT102 for the Duke 690 R with ABS from 2013 to 2017. Choose the front version for the rider's pegs or the rear version for the passenger's; each is a separate item, so replacing front and rear takes both versions. Have them fitted by a workshop, with the fasteners tightened to KTM's specification.

Road Approval

No ABE or parts certificate has been documented for the FT102. For that reason we supply it for use on the track rather than on German public roads.
