DescriptionThe whole story▼

How many kilometres have the front brakes of your Ducati Scrambler Classic covered? Few owners know, even though the answer matters. Accossato gives a guideline for replacing discs, and a simple service record makes it easy to follow. For the front of the Scrambler Classic of 2015 and 2016, Accossato lists the DKS074, a floating disc with a 330 mm friction ring, 5 mm thick, on a black carrier, which it describes as interchangeable with the original equipment disc.

Key Features

  • Floating front disc for the Ducati Scrambler Classic, 2015 and 2016
  • 330 mm outer diameter, 72 mm centre bore
  • 5 mm friction ring
  • Black carrier, ring attached with rivets
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
  • One disc, as the Classic has a single front disc
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The DKS074 consists of a friction ring and a black carrier connected by rivets. The ring, 330 mm in diameter and 5 mm thick, can move slightly on these rivets as it heats and cools, which is the principle of a floating disc. The carrier fits a 72 mm centre. Accossato explains that its experience with brake discs comes from Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 and that it pays particular attention to the fit between ring and carrier. Each disc bears its minimum working thickness.

Counting the Kilometres

Accossato suggests replacing brake discs roughly every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, and sooner if they are worn, scored or cracked or have reached their minimum thickness. The figure is a guideline, not a promise. A Scrambler Classic ridden gently on long country roads may keep its disc well beyond that, while one ridden hard in town, where every set of lights means another stop, may need a new disc much earlier. The only way to apply the guideline sensibly is to know the history of your own disc.

Start a simple record. Note the odometer reading every time pads or discs are changed, measure the disc at each pad change and write the value next to the date. After two or three entries you will see how fast your disc wears and can predict when it will reach the minimum printed on it. On a bike from 2015 or 2016, where the history of the first years is often unknown, begin with a measurement today. If the disc is already close to the limit, fit the DKS074, and your record starts with a new disc.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DKS074 for the Ducati Scrambler Classic in the model years 2015 and 2016. The Scrambler Classic has a single front disc, so one DKS074 renews it. For the rear wheel Accossato lists the fixed DK008 for the same years.

Road Approval

There is no documented German ABE or type approval for this disc. The DKS074 is intended for circuit and competition use.

Scope of Delivery

A single DKS074 floating disc with black carrier, for the front wheel.
