DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
TC-5 is the dark Blast — the same design executed so the shell stays black and the graphic works as tone rather than colour. It is the quietest way to have a decor on this helmet, and the one most people end up choosing.
Five SHARP stars — and which Glamster earned them
The weight SHARP recorded is worth quoting alongside the stars: 1.3 kg, measured on the helmet they bought and tested. Light helmets often score less well because there is less material to absorb energy; this one did not.
The rating from that May 2025 test is 5 out of 5, under ECE 22.06.
About the Blast TC-5 graphic
Shoei's TC codes exist because one decor is produced in several colour combinations, and the code is the only reliable way to identify which one you own. That matters practically: if you later want a matching visor tint, a spare part ordered against your helmet or a second helmet in the family, the parts catalogue works from the TC number rather than from the word „Blast". It is printed on the box and on the label under the padding. As a finish this is the graphic for riders who want the shell to look considered rather than plain, without the helmet becoming the loudest thing they are wearing. 🔵 Conspicuity is correspondingly low — for year-round urban use, the Off White or Basalt Grey do more for you.
AIM, three shells, double-D and EQRS
The Glamster06 is built the way Shoei builds its sports helmets, with a different shape imposed on top. Same AIM construction principle, same multi-density polystyrene, same EQRS emergency system, same three-shell approach to keeping the outer volume honest.
That is largely why it costs what it does. A retro-styled full-face can be made far more cheaply — one shell size, one EPS density, a thermoplastic outer — and still carry an approval mark.
The CPB-1V visor — and the sun shield that is not there
Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe it dry — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves fine scratches that catch headlights at night. Shoei even includes silicone oil in the box for the seal and mechanism.
🔵 The helmet has no integrated sun visor by design; tinted and photochromic CPB-1V visors take its place, and a Pinlock EVO lens is supplied as standard.
One intake, aluminium mesh, no sliders
Aluminium mesh rather than a plastic grille is a durability decision as much as an aesthetic one. Mesh does not go brittle with UV, does not discolour and cannot snap the way a thin moulded slider can — and on a helmet likely to be kept for years rather than seasons, that is worth something.
Two chin intakes use it; the forehead intake above opens and closes in one step; the exhaust is at the neck.
Interior, fit and glasses
If you wear glasses daily, this is one of the easier compact full-face helmets to live with. The channelling in the padding lets the arms pass without pressing, and the round visor aperture means you are not looking through the top edge of your lenses at the bottom edge of the visor.
Everything is removable and washable, with several pad thicknesses available for adjustment.
How loud it actually is
Most perceived helmet noise enters from below rather than from the front, which is why chin curtains work and why beards and open collars make such a difference. Shoei includes the curtain with the Glamster06, and fitting it takes about a minute.
With it in place, MCN's long-term test rated noise 4 out of 5.
Around 1300 grams, and the rest of the honest list
What you are buying at around 1300 g is a helmet that disappears. Small shell, low weight, no hardware pressing anywhere — and after twenty minutes you stop noticing it, which is the highest compliment a helmet gets.
🔵 What you are not buying: a sun visor, an intercom-ready interior, or the ventilation of a touring helmet.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Worth knowing that this helmet has a genuine following among riders who are not otherwise interested in retro styling, and the reason is the size. It is the most compact full-face Shoei makes, at around 1300 g with three shell sizes — which for smaller heads is a considerably better proposition than a touring helmet.
Everything else in the range is larger, heavier and more equipped.

When something wears out
Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. Shoei recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any real impact — the EPS liner crushes once and does not recover.
Between those two points everything you touch is replaceable: CPB-1V visors, DKS056 Pinlock lenses, all interior padding, chin strap covers and chin curtains.

Rated. Certified. Lit.
“The retro full-face done properly: vintage silhouette, modern homologation, five SHARP stars and a visor seal that keeps it quiet. It loses ground here only to open-face helmets, which fit the café racer brief more literally.”
— the Inter-Pace crewECE 22.06.
Five SHARP stars and four shell sizes on a retro shell.
A genuine vintage look with none of the vintage compromises.
Comfortable, with a rubber seal around the visor aperture.
1,300 g — light.
The weak point: the chin vents are always open and only demist.
Very quiet for a retro shell, though the wide neck lets some in.
Five SHARP stars in a retro helmet has no rival.
