DescriptionThe whole story▼
Grey with fluorescent yellow under a matt finish is the most visible helmet in the Falcon S range, and for trail and enduro riding rather than closed-circuit use it is the one that makes the most practical sense.
A motocross helmet — goggles, not a visor
🔵 If you want one helmet for trails and long tarmac transfers, this is the wrong tool and MT's own District SV S or Track SV are the better answers — both have visors and both are usable on the road.
The Falcon S is for riding that is genuinely off-road, with goggles, at off-road speeds.
About the Ruler C2 graphic
Fluorescent pigments convert ultraviolet into visible light, which is why they appear to glow rather than merely to be bright — and why they hold their advantage in exactly the conditions where ordinary colours fail: overcast light, dust haze, deep tree shade and the flat light at the end of a long day. For trail riding that matters more than it does on a closed circuit, because the rider who needs to see you may be behind you rather than beside the track. Setting the fluorescent against grey rather than white also keeps the helmet looking cared for: the grey absorbs the dust and spatter that would make a bright shell look neglected within a session. 🔵 Fluorescent fades faster than any other pigment type under sustained sun, and no care regime stops it — only storage out of direct light slows it down. Even so, it is the version we would choose for anything other than closed-circuit use — being seen in dust and tree shade is worth more than a finish that stays perfect on a shelf. The matt surface also copes with the handling an off-road helmet gets between the van and the trail better than any gloss finish would.
ECE 22.06 — and the DOT the older Falcon had
🔵 No independent safety rating exists for this helmet and none will — SHARP tests full-face and modular road helmets only, so no motocross helmet from any manufacturer appears in its database.
An absent rating here means out of scope rather than poorly rated. What the Falcon S holds is ECE 22.06.
HIRP and 1350 grams
🔵 Compare this against a competition MX helmet honestly. A composite shell of equal strength would be 100–300 g lighter, better ventilated and cost three to five times as much.
The Falcon S is HIRP at roughly 1350 g, homologated to ECE 22.06 — a genuine entry-level off-road helmet rather than a cut-down competition one.
The adjustable peak
Setting the peak is worth doing deliberately rather than leaving it where it arrives. A lower angle shades more and catches more air; a flatter one is calmer at speed and shades less.
🔵 If your riding is mostly trails with road sections between them, a flatter setting is the more comfortable compromise.
Intakes, extractors and why an MX helmet runs cool
🔵 Ventilation this comprehensive has no adjustment — there are no sliders to close in cold weather, and the aperture cannot be shut. That is correct for a helmet used off-road in effort, and a real limitation on a cold morning.
A neck tube and a decent pair of goggles do more for winter comfort here than anything on the helmet.
The double D-ring
🔵 The one thing a double D-ring asks of you is that you actually pull it tight, because it has no memory — every fastening is a fresh decision.
Correct tension: one finger under the strap with the helmet on, and no more.
What this helmet does not have
🔵 The absence of a sun visor is the one that catches people out on a road transfer. With goggles and no shield, low sun is handled by the peak and by tinted goggle lenses — and a tinted lens is a daylight item.
Carry a clear lens if the ride might end after dark.
Choosing the right size
Head circumference gets you to the right size; head shape decides whether it is comfortable. If a helmet presses at the temples but is loose front-to-back, that is a shape problem rather than a size one.
🔵 The Falcon S covers XS to XL. If your measurement is above roughly 62 cm, this model will not fit you.
Where it sits in MT's range
🔵 MT's range is unusually consistent: almost everything is built on the HIRP platform, with the carbon KRE+ S as the single exception. What changes between models is the body type and the equipment.
The Falcon S is the most stripped-back helmet in that range after the Street S jet — and the only one with a double D-ring.
When something wears out
🔵 Wash the interior often. An off-road liner takes dust, sweat and mud rather than just sweat, and one washed after every few sessions lasts appreciably longer than one that never is.
Never use solvents, petrol or alcohol on a thermoplastic shell — the damage is invisible at first and structural afterwards.
