On the Dukes in this family the choice of medium is graded. On the 250 Adventure it is not. Sprint Filter catalogues the P14, its 14-micron nonwoven, for the Dukes that share this airbox and lists it for neither Adventure, so the two machines built to leave the tarmac face a straight decision: the P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second, or this T12 at 7 microns and 560. Nothing sits between them to compromise with.
Key Features
- Dry polyester nonwoven at 7 µm and 560 l/m²/sec — the extreme-conditions end
- About a ninth of the P08's passage, in exchange for a great deal more held back
- No oil in its life: dust is caught by the structure of the mat, not glued to a film
- Original airbox, original fixings, original mapping — the element is all that changes
- Cleaned and refitted indefinitely; the warranty runs two years from the purchase date
- The P14 middle setting is catalogued for the Dukes in this family, not the Adventures
A choice with no middle
A range of media only works as a range when every step is available to you, and here it is not. For this machine the ladder has a top and a bottom and nothing in between, and moving from the P08 to this element divides the rated passage by about nine while taking the retention threshold from 80 microns to 7. There is no way to take a little of that and leave the rest.
Deciding it by hours, not by intentions
Which end to take is settled by where the machine spends its time, and the honest measure is hours rather than ambitions. One that covers most of its distance on sealed roads and turns onto gravel for the last twenty minutes is breathing clean air nearly all day, and a fine medium charges for its retention throughout. One that spends whole days on unsealed ground, in dust raised by its own wheels and by whatever is ahead, is in the conditions this element was drawn for. Neither answer flatters the bike: no replacement element makes a standard 250 Adventure quicker, since the output of a 249 cc single homologated inside the A2 category is fixed well before the airbox. What it genuinely offers is an intake resistance that begins low and returns to that figure at every clean.
Care and cleaning
Nothing needs carrying and nothing needs applying: this is a dry medium, so a compressor at the clean face of the PM200T12, worked outward, sends a day's dust back out through the side that trapped it. Where the load goes beyond what air will shift, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until clear. Then leave it in open air until every part is dry — never over a heat source, never beside a flame — and only then put it back. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the KTM 250 Adventure, 2020 to 2026, fitted in the standard airbox in place of the original. Six KTM machines share this T12: the 125, 200, 250 and 390 Duke, and both Adventures. The Fitment tab names each with its years, and the year matters as much as the model.
