Nobody knows what is in the airbox of a used motorcycle. A V85 TT from the closed 2018 to 2020 window has usually passed through at least one previous owner, and the air filter is the rare service part that gets handed over rather than used up: it may be the original, it may be a replacement of unrecorded make, it may be something an earlier owner treated with oil out of habit. Fitting PM01P14 is therefore two decisions at once. It picks a medium, and it resets the housing to a state that is known, documented and repeatable from that day forward.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven rated at 14 µm, the dust-oriented grade listed for this airbox
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, published alongside the filtration figure rather than behind it
- Supplied dry and kept dry: no oiling on delivery, none afterwards, nothing to get wrong
- About twice the filtering area of a typical performance element within the standard panel size
- Series airbox, factory position, no cutting and no remap required
- Cleaned and put back rather than replaced, with two years of warranty from purchase
Starting from a known state
An element carries its history invisibly. A nonwoven holds its load in the depth of the material, not on the surface, so looking at a panel against the light says very little about how much air it has already seen. Where the service record is incomplete, the cheapest way to end the guesswork is to put in a fresh element of known specification and note the date. Everything after that is arithmetic: dust in, cleanings out, an honest picture of how quickly this particular machine and this particular route load a filter.
Why the closer grade, and what it costs
The V85 TT is one of the machines this housing serves that genuinely meets unsealed surfaces, and the case for 14 µm is built on that air rather than on the engine. The cost is stated on the same data sheet: less throughput than the standard weave. Neither figure changes what the engine produces — an element in an unaltered airbox does not make a series motorcycle stronger, whatever it is made of. What it can do is keep intake resistance low and, more usefully, keep it there across the whole interval instead of letting it drift.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is the first tool for PM01P14, aimed from the clean side outward so the dust exits the way it came in. Lukewarm water and a mild detergent deal with what remains after a dusty season; rinse well, then leave the panel to dry through completely in moving air. No heat, no flame, no drying cabinet, and nothing sprayed onto the medium before it goes back in. The Downloads tab carries the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Specified for the airbox of the Moto Guzzi V85 TT, model years 2018 to 2020. Four catalogue entries share the number in this medium, across two marques of the same group; each is listed with its own model years in the Fitment tab.
