Put the two data sheets side by side and one column barely moves while the other triples. The standard P08 medium filters to 80 microns and flows 5,050 l/m²/sec; the P08 F1-85 in this PM111S F1-85 element filters to 85 microns and flows 15,000. Five microns coarser — six per cent — for roughly three times the air. Figures that behave like that invite a comfortable misreading, in which the small number is a rounding error and the large one is free. On a Kawasaki Ninja 1100 SX it is worth knowing which particles are actually involved before ordering.
Key Features
- 85 microns of filtration, 15,000 l/m²/sec of flow, dry polyester racing medium
- The standard P08 sits at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec: finer, more retention, less flow
- Filtering area runs to roughly double that of other performance filters
- The medium carries no oil, so nothing migrates onto the sensors this engine relies on
- Swapped in for the original element in the standard airbox: nothing modified, nothing remapped
- Reusable and washable, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Where the retention really differs
Sprint Filter's own comparative measurement is useful here, because it is measured at one coarse particle size: at 100 microns the F1-85 holds back 95.22 per cent and the standard P08 93.13 per cent, both far ahead of the 76.42 per cent recorded for four-layer oiled cotton. So grit is not what you give away. The rated figure describes the boundary at which each fabric begins to let material through, and the difference between 85 and 80 microns lives just below it — in the fine mineral dust and the brake and tyre particulate that stays suspended at exactly the height an intake draws from. A sport-tourer swallows hours of that at a steady motorway pace.
What the extra air is for
Air flow is a ceiling, not a saving: it is only collected when the engine is actually asking for everything the intake can supply, which on this machine means wide throttle high in the rev range. The 1100 gets there readily on a circuit and hardly ever on a commute. That asymmetry is the whole decision, and it comes with one condition — the coarser medium belongs on an engine inspected by operating hours, the way race engines are, because that is what catches anything the weave let past. Serviced only to the road schedule, the trade is not covered, and the standard P08 is the better element.
Care and cleaning
The polyester is never oiled, before a wash or after one, which keeps the procedure short. Normal service is compressed air from the clean side, outwards. A deeper clean means lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then open air until the element is dry through — heat and flame are never used. It goes back in dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kawasaki Ninja 1100 SX, 2025 to 2026. The same PM111S F1-85 element covers five machines built around this airbox, from the Ninja 1000 SX to the Z1100 and the Bimota KB4 pair; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
