Service schedules count kilometres because kilometres are easy to count. An air filter does not experience kilometres — it experiences the volume of air pulled through it, and on a sport-tourer those two figures drift apart faster than on almost anything else. An hour at sustained motorway speed moves far more air through the airbox than an hour of town riding covering a third of the distance, and it draws that air from the dust and rubber of a busy trunk road. The Sprint Filter P08 PM111S does not rewrite the schedule. It changes what the schedule costs: a woven polyester element is washed and refitted rather than bought again, so restoring the intake to the restriction it had when new is an afternoon in the garage instead of a parts order.
Key Features
- Woven polyester thread from ø 22 microns; the aperture is calibrated in the weave, not pressed out of pulp
- Dry throughout and never oiled, so no film can be carried downstream onto sensors or throttle bodies
- Filtering surface around double that offered by other performance filters
- It replaces the standard element in the standard airbox: nothing modified, nothing remapped, homologation unchanged
- Washed with compressed air and used again — the normal service is an air line
- The warranty stands for two years from the date of purchase
Distance is a poor measure of a filter
Two Ninja 1000 SX with identical odometers can have had entirely different intake lives. One spent its kilometres in short bursts at part throttle; the other spent them at high road speed with a pillion and hard luggage. The second element is closer to the end of its useful life, and nothing on the dashboard will say so. The honest benefit here is not extra power — a plug-in filter does not give a standard motorcycle a performance the factory withheld. It is that restriction starts low and can be put back to low, on a bike whose owner has no way of seeing how much air has actually gone past.
Sensors, and why the medium stays dry
The Ninja 1000 SX meters air electronically and leans on that measurement for its rider aids and cruise control. A filter treated with tacky oil relies on that oil staying where it was applied, and it does not always stay put under sustained high flow and engine bay heat. The P08 sidesteps the whole question: the polyester is dry, has never been oiled, and cannot deposit a film anywhere downstream.
Care and cleaning
The routine is compressed air, directed from the clean side outwards. After a hard season, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear, then let it dry fully in open air — never with heat, never with a flame. It is refitted dry, and it has never needed oiling. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX, 2020 to 2026. The same PM111S element serves twelve machines built around this airbox, including the earlier Z1000SX generations and the Bimota models that use the engine; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
