The KB998 Rimini is new: 2025 and 2026 are the only model years on its record. The element that cleans its intake air is not. PM154S belongs to an airbox that has been in production since 2016 and has been taken out, blown through and refitted on that housing for the better part of a decade. For anyone running a motorcycle built in small numbers, the gap between the age of the machine and the age of its consumables matters: it separates the parts that must be found from the ones that are simply on a shelf.
Key Features
- Woven polyester used dry — nothing to oil when new, nothing to re-apply after washing
- 80 microns at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, the standard road and track medium
- Retention measured at 93.13 % of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton
- Around twice the filtering area of other performance elements in the same panel format
- Direct replacement for the paper element in the series airbox; nothing cut, no remapping
- Serviced rather than replaced for the life of the machine, with two years of warranty
A new motorcycle with a settled consumable
Owning something made in small numbers usually means longer waits for the parts that wear out. The intake is an exception here, because air filters are specified against housings rather than badges, and this housing is a mass-production one. Two machines are catalogued under PM154S: the KB998 Rimini and the Kawasaki ZX10R Ninja + ABS built from 2016 onward. Quoting the code rather than the model name is what makes ordering reliable, and it is the code that will still mean something in ten years.
What the element is actually for
Not power. A panel dropped into an unmodified airbox does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger; it can only hand back the resistance it introduced itself. The useful part is that the resistance stops drifting. A paper element begins at its lowest value and climbs from there until somebody discards it in a condition nobody measured; a washable weave has a reference state that an air line restores, so every interval starts where the last one did. Roughly double the cloth area works in the same direction — a given quantity of dust covers a smaller share of it before anything changes.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, held against the clean face of the PM154S and blown outward, is the whole service in normal use. Where that leaves a film behind, lukewarm water and a mild washing-up detergent finish it; rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it right through in moving air alone — heat guns, radiators and flames destroy polyester far more reliably than dust ever will. It goes back into the box dry and unoiled, with the seal checked the whole way round. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the series airbox of the Bimota KB998 Rimini of 2025 and 2026. Two machines carry this code, the KB998 and the Kawasaki ZX10R Ninja + ABS from 2016 to 2026; both are named in the Fitment tab. The same housing is catalogued with three further media: the P037, the P14 and the racing F1-85.
