DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nobody notices the clutch in the first hour. It is the third and the fourth that reveal how a bike is set up, when the grip strength has gone and the hand starts to work from the wrist instead of the fingers. A 250EXC-F asks for a great deal of small, precise clutch work on slow ground, so the condition and the position of that lever decide how a long day ends. Accossato lists the AGS14 for this model from 2006 to 2023, a silver clutch lever in the original form.
Key Features
- Clutch lever in the original form for the KTM 250EXC-F
- Accossato's entry covers 2006 to 2023, including the factory editions in its list
- Silver
- Left of the bar, hydraulic clutch
- An original spare parts type developed by Accossato for good value
- The maker states that the production process raises resistance after damage
- One lever
- No German ABE or test mark; racing and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
This is a part that does its work by being unremarkable. The blade of the AGS14 matches the form of the clutch lever supplied on the 250EXC-F, so the hand meets the same curve in the same place and a rider who has spent years on the machine carries on without adjusting anything. Accossato calls it an original spare parts type and built the programme around the price of a normal repair; it also reports that the way the levers are made leaves them more resistant after damage or a collision. The colour for this fitment is silver. No further data is published, and none is supplied here from guesswork.
Fatigue and the Left Hand
Grip strength falls away faster than most riders expect, and when it does the technique changes without permission. Fingers that were curled over the last third of the blade slide inboard, the pull becomes a squeeze of the whole hand, and the rider begins to use more clutch than the situation needs because the modulation has gone. Anything that makes the lever harder to operate brings that moment forward. A dry pivot is the usual culprit and the easiest to cure: strip it, wash the dust out of the bore, grease it lightly, and check that the blade falls back under its own weight when you flick it. A blade that has been bent, even slightly, is the second cause, because it moves the fingers to a position that was never designed and often rubs on the housing at the top of its travel. The third is lever angle, which on an enduro bike should be set for the rider standing on the pegs and not for the rider sitting in a garage; too high a lever forces the wrist to break upwards every time it is used, and after three hours that is felt in the forearm. None of this is exotic maintenance. It is ten minutes with a rag, a smear of grease and a new blade when the old one is no longer straight, and on a 250EXC-F it is the difference between finishing a long loop tired and finishing it spent.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's entry gives the AGS14 for the 250EXC-F from 2006 to 2023 and lists no second original-type clutch lever for the model, so the left side is settled. The brake side is less tidy: the AGD10 is given for 2006 to 2018 and the AGD316 for 2013 to 2023, and the overlapping seasons have to be decided by looking at the fitted part. Beyond this machine the AGS14 appears in our catalogue for the Beta RR 390 4T, the Husqvarna FE 350 and the Husqvarna TE 300. Accossato's CNC levers for the 250EXC-F are the B8283 and the C7283.
Road Approval
No approval papers accompany the AGS14, so we cannot state a German ABE or a test mark for it and we list the lever for racing and competition.
