DescriptionThe whole story▼
By the last motos of a race day, a soft motocross track has changed completely. Ruts in the corners are deep enough to swallow the wheels, and the quickest way round is to put the bike in one and drive through it. On a KTM 450 SX-F that means a steady, controlled drive, which is where the clutch comes in. For the 450 SX-F of 2013 to 2022, Accossato's C7283 offers a long blade for four fingers, cut from Ergal 7075 and able to fold if the bike drops over in a rut.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the KTM 450 SX-F, 2013 to 2022
- Listed for the 2013 model and the 2014–2022 bikes
- Mounts at the original clutch control
- Long four-finger blade
- Joint gives the blade room to fold forward in a crash
- CNC-machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, orange or red
- No German ABE documented; for motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
Why build a lever in two parts? Because the base can then stay where it is, on the pivot at the clutch mount, while the blade in front of it is free to fold forward on a joint when the bike hits the ground. That is the idea behind the C7283. Accossato mills it in Italy from solid Ergal 7075; strength, low weight and reliability are the three things the company asks of that alloy. The base is dark, the blade comes in black, blue, orange or red, and its length gives four fingers room.
Ruts at the End of the Day
Riding a deep rut on a 450 is about staying in it. Enter too fast and the bike climbs out; too slowly and it falls over; accelerate too hard and the rear tyre digs, stands the bike up and throws it out of the rut. Good riders pick their rut early, look well ahead, keep their weight forward and the inside leg out in front, and let the clutch out smoothly while holding the throttle steady. A small slip of the clutch at the exit helps the 450 SX-F pull out without the rear tyre breaking loose.
When the bike falls in a deep rut, it usually drops to the inside, which in a left-hander means the left side. The clutch lever lands on the edge of the rut, and with the bike half wedged in the groove, the lever can take a lot of force. The C7283 is hinged so its blade can fold forward and give way rather than snap at the tip. That improves the chance of pulling the KTM 450 SX-F out, restarting and finishing the moto with a working clutch.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7283 for the KTM 450 SX-F as a single 2013 model and as the 2014–2022 group; it fits the original clutch mount on both. The B8283 folding brake lever covers 2014 to 2022, so the 2013 bike can only be fitted on the clutch side. Black, blue and orange are shared by both levers; red is available only on this one.
Road Approval
The C7283 is not documented with a German ABE and is supplied for motocross and other off-road competition, which is where the 450 SX-F is used.
