DescriptionThe whole story▼
White with neon yellow is the most visible version of the fibreglass X.RALLY, and on a helmet used in trees, dust and flat light that is a specification rather than a preference.
Three modes in one shell
The winter chin vent is what makes Dual-Sport mode more than „peak plus visor". It changes the airflow behind a closed visor for cold conditions — the situation where an adventure helmet is least pleasant and most helmets do nothing at all.
Swap to Off-Road mode and the same aperture takes goggles instead.
| Mode | Peak | Eye protection | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual-Sport | fitted | Recoil visor | mixed days, low sun, spray |
| Off-Road | fitted | goggles (not supplied) | trail and enduro, maximum airflow |
| On-Road | removed | Recoil visor | motorway transfers — the quietest setting |
About the YUMA White Neon graphic
Fluorescent pigments convert ultraviolet into visible light, which is why they appear to glow rather than merely to be bright — and why they keep their advantage in exactly the conditions where ordinary colours fail: overcast light, deep tree shade, dust haze at the end of the day. On a helmet ridden in groups off-road that means the rider behind you can keep track of where you went. Combined with a white ground it is the highest-contrast option in the YUMA family. 🔵 Fluorescent pigments also fade faster than any other type under sustained UV. Keep the helmet in its bag rather than on the mirror.
The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers
The shell here is X-Matrix2, six-layer fibreglass composite. Three outer shell sizes cover XXS to XXXL (XXS–S / M–L / XL–XXXL), which keeps the volume honest across a very wide size range.
X-Foam EPP bumpers cover the entire lower shell including the chin area — Nexx's stated aim is to soften impact forces there and reduce collarbone injury risk.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | six-layer fibreglass composite | 1475 g | Plain, YUMA |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) | PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 |
The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box
The Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision lens is fitted from the factory, and the „MaxVision" part matters: it covers the full width of the aperture rather than leaving a clear border top and bottom, which on a helmet used at low speed in cold air is where fogging actually starts.
🔵 The photochromic shield supplied alongside it does not take a Pinlock lens — that is the trade for self-darkening.
Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them
Nine intakes is a lot of openings, and the layout is more considered than the number suggests: cheek-pad ventilation feeding the lower shell, a mid air chamber across the crown, and the Air Cumbs chamber managing where the heat collects.
🔵 Independent measurement nonetheless recorded only a 3 °C delta and scored the ventilation 2/5. A separate hands-on review disagreed. Both findings stand.
How loud it actually is
The dual-lip visor seal and the spring-tensioned Recoil base plates are the parts of this helmet working against noise, and they address the highest-frequency component — the whistle that leaks around a poorly seated visor edge.
🔵 The measured overall figure was 103 dB with a 3/5 score, most of which comes from the peak rather than the visor.
Interior, hydration routing and fit
Fit is documented rather than guessed: an independent road test found the X.RALLY true to size, with an intermediate-to-long oval head shape and comfort scored 3.5/5. A second review called it „remarkably comfortable, spacious inside".
🔵 Long oval means it suits heads that are longer front-to-back. Distinctly round heads should try before buying.
1475 grams, and the rest of the honest list
The composite shell costs you 125 g against the carbon one on paper and costs noticeably less. Whether that trade is worth making depends almost entirely on how long your riding days are.
🔵 Both figures are manufacturer claims. Independent weighing of the carbon version found it roughly 200 g heavier than published, which is worth bearing in mind for both.
Where it sits — and who should buy something else
🔵 A useful comparison for anyone cross-shopping. Nexx supplies two visors and a fitted Pinlock lens with this helmet. Most adventure helmets at this price supply one visor and sell the anti-fog lens separately, which matters before you have compared anything else.
Against that, the X.RALLY has no independent safety rating, where several competitors do.
Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts
Spare parts are the thing to check before buying any adventure helmet, because peaks break and visors get scratched. For the X.RALLY, peaks, visors, the photochromic shield, Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision lenses, cheek pads, liners and chin-strap covers are all separately available.
🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks.
