DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
TC-3 is the yellow Invigorate and the most visible helmet in this range by a clear margin. On a bike ridden through unfamiliar countries, on unlit roads, among drivers who are not expecting motorcycles, that is a specification rather than a preference.
Peak and visor — what an adventure helmet is for
Where the Hornet ADV 06 earns its place is on the days that are not one thing. A tarmac climb, a gravel descent, three hours of motorway home — and one helmet that is acceptable on all of it rather than excellent on a third of it and unusable on the rest.
🔵 Buy it for that. If your riding is genuinely one thing, a specialist helmet will do that thing better.
About the Invigorate TC-3 graphic
The human eye resolves yellow against a dull background faster than any other colour, and dull backgrounds are where motorcyclists are most often not seen: flat overcast light, wet tarmac, cluttered village streets, a driver at a junction with a fraction of a second to decide. A yellow helmet sits at head height above the headlight, exactly where the eye scans. On an adventure helmet that argument carries further than usual, because the riding involves more unfamiliar roads and more unpredictable traffic than a commute does. 🔵 Two honest caveats: yellow shows dirt as readily as white, and bright pigments fade faster under sustained UV than dark ones. Neither is a reason not to buy it; both are reasons to store the helmet in its bag.
AIM+, four shells, double-D and EQRS
Mass centralisation matters more on an adventure helmet than on most, because the peak puts weight ahead of and above the centre of your head — on a lever arm, in clean air, for hours at a time. Four shell sizes are how Shoei keeps that manageable across the range.
The shell is six-layer AIM+ composite; the liner is multi-density EPS; the strap is a double-D ring.
The CNS-2 visor and the Pinlock lens in the box
The CNS-2 gives a wide field of view, which matters on a helmet used standing up as well as seated — standing raises your eye line relative to the aperture, and a shallow visor opening becomes obvious immediately.
🔵 It changes without tools, comes with a Pinlock EVO lens in the box, and takes replacements under the code DKS302.
Ventilation — and why we do not quote a vent count
Compared with a pure road helmet, an adventure helmet needs more airflow at lower speeds and can afford more drag to get it. Compared with a motocross helmet, it needs a sealed visor and cannot have fifteen open vents. This one sits between the two, as the type demands.
🔵 Shoei reworked the system for this generation; the exact intake and exhaust count is not consistently reported and we do not state one.
Peak, spoiler and lift at road speed
The honest way to evaluate an adventure helmet's aerodynamics is on your own motorcycle, because the interaction with the screen matters more than the helmet does. If you can, ride in one before buying, and ride in it at the speed you actually travel at.
🔵 What Shoei documents for this shell: a perforated peak and an integrated rear spoiler, both intended to reduce lift. Not independently verified.
Four cheek pad thicknesses, removable ear pads, intercom prep
A 12 mm spread of cheek pad thicknesses is wider than most manufacturers offer and it exists because faces differ far more than head circumferences do. Two riders with identical measurements can need completely different pads.
🔵 Sizes available: 31, 35, 39 and 43 mm. The ear pads are separately removable, and the helmet is prepared for intercom installation.
What is documented and what is not
What we can tell you with confidence about this helmet is what Shoei documents and what the standard requires: ECE 22.06 approval, AIM+ six-layer composite shell, four shell sizes, multi-density EPS, double-D ring, EQRS, CNS-2 visor with a Pinlock lens supplied, cheek pads at 31–43 mm and intercom preparation.
🔵 What we cannot: a verified weight, an independent test result, or a SHARP rating. None exists.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Two helmets in this range cost the same and they could hardly be less alike. The GT-Air3 is a sport-touring full-face with a sun visor and five SHARP stars. This is an adventure helmet on a competition shell grade with a peak and no independent rating.
🔵 Neither is better. They answer different questions, and the price is a coincidence.

When something wears out
The serviceable parts list is longer than a road helmet's, which on a helmet used far from home is a real advantage: visor, Pinlock lens, peak, head pad, cheek pads in four thicknesses, centre pads, ear pads and chin strap covers.
🔵 Between them they cover everything except the shell and the liner.
