DescriptionThe whole story

White with orange is the most useful Raid colourway for riding that genuinely leaves the tarmac. Orange is the colour the eye resolves fastest against brown ground and green trees; white keeps the helmet visible everywhere else.

Three modes in one shell

The X.RALLY was developed for hard enduro and then made usable on the road, which is the opposite order from most adventure helmets. That shows in the mode system: Off-Road is the native configuration, and On-Road is the one with parts removed.

Both are properly worked out; the shell is shaped for the peakless case as well as the peaked one.

Mode Peak Eye protection Best for
Dual-Sport fitted Recoil visor mixed days, low sun, spray
Off-Road fitted goggles (not supplied) trail and enduro, maximum airflow
On-Road removed Recoil visor motorway transfers — the quietest setting

About the Raid White Orange graphic

If you ride in a group off-road, being seen by the rider behind you matters more than being seen by traffic, and it is a different problem: dust, shade and dappled light rather than flat overcast. Orange holds up in all three where red flattens out and dark colours disappear entirely. Setting it against white rather than a dark ground keeps the helmet working on the road sections too. 🔵 Both pigments here fade faster than dark ones under sustained UV, and a helmet left on a mirror in the sun for a season will show it. Store it in the bag.

The X-PRO Carbon shell and the X-Foam bumpers

The X-Foam bumpers are worth more attention than the shell material. They are an ultralight EPP layer covering the entire lower shell — including the chin — positioned where an adventure helmet actually lands, and Nexx's stated purpose is reducing collarbone injury risk as well as absorbing impact.

Around them: the X-PRO Carbon shell at 1350 g claimed, in three outer shell sizes.

Shell Construction Weight (Nexx) Decors From
X-Matrix2 six-layer fibreglass composite 1475 g Plain, YUMA 399,99 €
X-PRO Carbon carbon fibre 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 559,99 €

The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box

🔵 A note on tinted and photochromic visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. A photochromic shield is the compliant way to have one visor for both, which is part of why Nexx supplies one.

The clear visor, with its fitted Pinlock lens, is the other half of the answer.

Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them

Airflow only happens if there is somewhere for the air to go, and six exhausts against nine intakes is a sensible ratio — enough outlet area to keep the intakes flowing rather than merely open.

🔵 That is the theory. In measurement one reviewer recorded a 3 °C delta and scored the system 2/5; another, riding it, praised the airflow. Both remain on the record.

How loud it actually is

If noise is the deciding factor in your purchase, the honest recommendation is a road helmet rather than a different colour of this one. Adventure helmets are louder by design, and this one sits mid-field among them.

🔵 The measured figure is 103 dB with a 3/5 score — and On-Road mode is the configuration that improves it most.

Interior, hydration routing and fit

The X-HIDRO cheek pads route a hydration tube along the jaw to where you can reach it, which changes how a long hot day works — drinking without stopping is the difference between finishing a section and cutting it short.

🔵 The bladder itself is not supplied; the routing is.

1350 grams claimed, 1553 measured

Carbon buys you 125 g on paper against the composite shell in this range, for roughly 160 €. Whether that is worth it depends on how long your riding days are and how much of them you spend with your head up in clean air.

🔵 Bear in mind that the independent scale figure for this shell — 1553 g in size M — sits above Nexx's claim by more than the gap between the two shells.

Where it sits — and who should buy something else

What separates this from most adventure helmets is the equipment level in the box: two visors, a fitted Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision lens, hydration routing in the cheek pads, universal intercom provision and moulded reflectors.

🔵 What separates it in the other direction is the absence of any independent safety rating.

Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts

Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. Nexx, like every manufacturer, recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition — and immediately after any real impact, because the EPS crushes once and does not recover.

Between those points, everything you touch on this helmet is replaceable.

In the box
