Why There Is a Side

Unlike Spark's stainless universal cans, the Moto GP is not symmetrical. The outlet is cut at an angle and the mounting lug sits on one flank, so a case built for the right of the motorcycle will not sit correctly on the left with the logo the right way up.

Springs, Not Clamps

The two springs in the box are the mounting method, and they are there because a race silencer has to come off between sessions. A sprung joint takes thermal expansion without loading the header and it comes apart with a hook rather than a socket set.

It is also the joint that tells you this case was designed for a paddock rather than for a showroom.

The Insert Is Extra

Spark ships this silencer open. If your circuit enforces a noise limit you need a db killer as a separate article — G9941 with twenty-one holes, or G9969 open. Order it with the silencer; discovering the requirement at the gate is an expensive way to learn it.

A Hundred Millimetres of Logo

Spark lasers the SP Spark.it mark into the case at a hundred millimetres long — large enough to read from the side of a track and cut into the metal rather than printed on it, so it survives heat, solvent and a season of cleaning.

Extra markings can be added on request. Shops building under their own name use it; so do teams putting a number on a spare.

Titanium at This Size

A short case in titanium is where the material earns its price. There is little enough metal in a Moto GP silencer that the difference against stainless is only a few hundred grams — but those grams sit at the far end of the motorcycle, on the swingarm side of the mass, where they cost the most.
