DescriptionThe whole story▼

Half an hour, and two and a half kilograms lighter. This is the Z900 silencer Akrapovic developed against the 2020 to 2024 machine specifically, and its figures are the ones measured on that generation rather than carried over from an earlier one.

  • Titanium body with a carbon fibre end cap
  • New conical muffler shape matched to the bike's lines

The Overlap With S-K9SO4-ASZT

Akrapovic lists two titanium slip-ons for a 2020 to 2024 Z900. The other, S-K9SO4-ASZT, is catalogued from 2017 and its published figures were taken on the 2017 to 2019 bike, which made more power to begin with.

For a machine from 2020 onwards this is the one developed against it. The other will fit, but its numbers describe a different engine state.

Sixty-One Per Cent

Kawasaki's standard silencer for these years weighs 3.93 kg — lighter than the 2017 machine's 4.41, because Euro 5 moved some of the emissions work forward into the headers. Less to remove, and still nearly two and a half kilograms gone.

Why It Is Not Road Legal

Akrapovic built this version for markets that do not require EC/ECE approval, and for trackday use. It is not a case of the approval being pending — the silencer was never designed to meet a European noise figure, which is where the weight and the sound both come from.

If your Z900 needs to stay legal, S-K9SO6-HZT is the approved alternative for the same years.

A Carbon End Cap

Titanium body, carbon at the outlet. That combination puts the material that shows from directly behind the bike in carbon and keeps titanium where the heat is highest along the body.

Two Kilograms and a Half

2.43 kg out of a 212 kg motorcycle, taken from behind the rider's right leg. Mass at the back of the wheelbase resists direction changes more than the same weight anywhere central, so the figure counts for more than one per cent of the bike suggests.

A New Conical Shape

Akrapovic drew this muffler specifically for the 2020 Z900's tail section rather than adapting the earlier shape. On a naked bike where the silencer is fully exposed, a can designed for a different year looks it.

Plug and Play

Akrapovic confirms no remapping is required. A slip-on leaves the catalytic converter and the lambda sensors exactly where Kawasaki put them, so the engine management sees nothing unusual and the bike runs correctly from the first start.

A Carbon End Cap on a Titanium Body

Akrapovic finishes the silencer with carbon at the outlet. That is the part visible from directly behind the motorcycle, and it is where a contrasting material reads most clearly against the titanium body.

Road Approval

None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
