DescriptionThe whole story

Peak output does not change: 73.4 PS standard, 73.4 PS with this system fitted. What rises is the middle — 1.2 PS and 2.1 Nm, both at 4,800 rpm — and 1.9 kg comes off the high right-hand side of a bike built to be ridden off the tarmac.

Key Features

  • 3.23 kg against the standard 5.09 kg: 1.9 kg and 36.5 per cent less
  • 2.1 Nm and 1.2 PS (0.9 kW), both at 4,800 rpm
  • High-grade titanium muffler outer sleeve with a stainless steel link pipe and inner structure
  • Handmade carbon fibre end cap and a carbon fibre heat shield that protects the rider's gear
  • The latest Adventure-range muffler shape
  • EC and ECE type approved, plug-and-play with no remapping
  • An optional stainless steel header is available — but see the warning below

The Optional Header Voids the Approval

Akrapovic offers a stainless steel header for this bike, and it delivers more performance and a harder sound. It also makes the EC/ECE type approval of this slip-on invalid — the manufacturer states this explicitly.

So there are two configurations, and they are not interchangeable in the eyes of an inspector. Slip-on alone: type approved, legal, papers intact. Slip-on plus optional header: more power, no valid certificate. On a road-registered Tuareg the first is the only one that holds up.

Where the Torque Lands

4,800 rpm on a 659 cc parallel twin is the middle of a climb on loose ground in second or third. That is the part of the range a Tuareg rider actually uses, and adding 2.1 Nm there does more for the bike than a peak figure would.

Aprilia caps this engine's output the same way in every version, so the unchanged 73.4 PS is what a type-approved exhaust can deliver. What it can improve is the response, and Akrapovic names throttle response and rideability as the goals.

A Heat Shield That Protects You

The carbon fibre shield here is specified for the rider's gear rather than a passenger's. On a Tuareg the rider stands on the pegs with a boot close to the silencer for long stretches, and a bare titanium body at that distance is a hazard to leather and textile alike.

Fitment and Compatibility

S-A6SO1-HGJT covers the Aprilia Tuareg 660 from model year 2022 through 2026. Installation is quoted at around 30 minutes.

Road Approval

EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The approval applies to the slip-on fitted on its own; installing the optional header invalidates it.
