DescriptionThe whole story▼

Vitpilen means white arrow, and the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 is the café racer among the brand's 401 models: a low handlebar, road tyres and a riding position that tips the rider forward. With more weight on the hands, braking feels different than on its sister, the Svartpilen, and the right hand has less freedom to move. The Accossato EDF039 replaces the Vitpilen's front brake lever with a machined aluminium one for the original master cylinder. Its distance to the grip is adjustable, and Accossato lists it for 2018 to 2020.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, model years 2018 to 2020
  • Mounts on the original master cylinder
  • Reach adjuster near the pivot
  • Standard, short or long blade, depending on colour; standard approx. 138 mm
  • Anodised aluminium, CNC-machined, black hub
  • Seven blade colours
  • Rigid one-piece blade

Construction and Material Quality

Café racers have always been about details, and machined aluminium parts have long been part of that culture. The EDF039 follows the tradition in a modern way: Accossato mills it from solid aluminium on CNC machines, then anodises it with a black hub and a blade in the colour you pick. The hub holds the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade is one fixed piece, without a hinge. On a bike as pared back as the Vitpilen 401, that clean one-piece shape is plain to see from the saddle.

When the Body Leans Forward

On the Vitpilen 401, your upper body leans forward to reach the low bar, and under braking the deceleration pushes it further still. If the arms take that load, the wrists bend and the fingers lose their fine control over the lever. The fix starts below the waist: press your knees against the tank and tense your core, so that the body stays where it is and the hands stay light. The lever setting does the rest. With a low bar, the hand approaches the lever at a different angle than on the Svartpilen, so it is worth setting the reach with the bike upright and your body in its normal riding position, not sitting bolt upright in the garage. The blade should meet your fingers without the wrist having to bend downwards. Riders with smaller hands can bring it closer, and the short blade is handy for two-finger braking on a winding road.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF039 for the Vitpilen 401 from 2018 to 2020. It replaces the original lever on the front brake master cylinder. The ESK390 is the matching Accossato clutch lever for the Vitpilen 401 of the same years, and the same pair is listed for the Svartpilen 401, the Vitpilen's more rugged sibling.

Road Approval

No German ABE is documented for the EDF039. For that reason it is sold for the track.
