DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ducati revived the SuperSport name in 2017 for a sports bike built for the road: a twin with a sporty but not extreme position, a windscreen and the option of panniers. Many SuperSport 939s therefore carry luggage and a passenger at some point, and braking with that extra load feels different. The Accossato EDF099 is a CNC-machined brake lever for the 2017 to 2020 SuperSport 939, mounted on the original master cylinder, with an adjustable distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the SuperSport 939, 2017 to 2020
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Reach adjustable to your fingers
- Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange for extra leverage on a laden bike
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in every colour
- Black anodised hub, coloured blade
- Machined from solid aluminium, no folding joint
- Sold for track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF099 is a one-piece lever, CNC-machined from solid aluminium and anodised afterwards. Its hub is black on every version and houses both the pivot and the adjuster; the blade is where the colour goes. With no folding joint, the lever has no second pivot that could add movement under load, which suits a bike like the SuperSport 939 that is often ridden fully laden.
Luggage and a Passenger on Board
With a passenger and panniers on board, the SuperSport 939 needs more braking force for the same stop, and more weight transfers to the front. Two things help: braking earlier, and braking progressively, so that the passenger's weight comes forward smoothly instead of in a jolt that pushes them into your back. A lever within easy reach makes that gradual build-up easier. Set the EDF099 so that your fingers meet the blade without stretching, and consider the long blade for its extra leverage on a fully laden bike. Tell your passenger before you brake hard, agree on a signal, and practise a few stops together before the first long trip. The more predictable the braking, the more relaxed the person behind you.
Long Days in the Saddle
On a long motorway stage the right hand holds the throttle steady for hours and touches the brake only now and then. If the blade stands too far out, the fingers either stretch to cover it or stay curled away from it, and both become tiring over a day. With the lever set where relaxed fingers fall, the hand can stay loose between junctions and fuel stops and still reach the brake at once when the traffic ahead slows down.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF099 for the SuperSport 939 from 2017 to 2020. It replaces the original brake lever on the stock master cylinder. The matching clutch lever from Accossato is the ESD082, listed for the SuperSport from 2017 to 2019, one model year shorter than the brake lever.
Road Approval
An ABE for German roads has not been documented for this lever, which is why it is sold for the track.
Scope of Delivery
One brake lever in an Accossato box, colour and length as selected in the shop.
