DescriptionThe whole story▼

Same Reptaia scale artwork, different palette: here the print runs black into anthracite and silver rather than violet and teal, on the Ridill 2 that opens Shark's full-face catalogue price-wise. Buying the cheapest helmet in the range doesn't mean buying a lesser one — this decor still carries every certification and construction detail the pricier lines share.

Homologated under ECE 22.06

Since January 2024, ECE 22.06 has been the mandatory bar for newly certified helmets sold in the EU, and it replaced ECE 22.05 with a noticeably harder test. Five strike points became eighteen. One fixed impact speed became several. A new test drags the shell obliquely across an abrasive surface to capture twisting force, something a straight vertical drop never measured, and a rotational injury score now runs alongside the older linear-deceleration number. Shark tests with the visor mounted, plus a Pinlock insert and comms unit if fitted, because that's the configuration people actually wear. Print on the shell reads 2206. No FIM suffix follows it — this is a road certificate only.

Carrying the weight, hour after hour

1,470 g is Shark's figure for this helmet, taken on the smaller of its two shell moulds; step up to a mid-range M on the bigger shell and expect a touch more. Visordown independently weighed a size M unit at 1,474 g — near enough to the factory claim to treat it as reliable. The number that matters isn't what you feel lifting the helmet off a shelf; it's what your neck is still carrying three hours into a ride, unbroken. Shark's wider street-helmet catalogue spans somewhere around 1,250 g to 1,800 g by model and material, and this one sits comfortably below the midpoint.

Construction: shell, foam, buckle

Peel back the graphic and it's the standard Ridill 2 build: a thermoplastic shell — Shark's spec sheet says "Thermoplastique", press coverage calls the same thing Lexan polycarbonate — moulded in two sizes so a small head isn't rattling around in an XL shell with extra padding stuffed in. A multi-density EPS liner steps its firmness through the shell rather than using one block of foam throughout, and the strap fastens with a micrometric ratchet — one-handed, glove-friendly, and it locks to an exact notch instead of needing re-threading like a double-D ring would.

Three vents, every one glove-friendly

A chin intake, two crown intakes on a single shared control, and two exhaust ports at the back — three points of airflow in total, all of them workable without taking gloves off, according to independent testing. Airflow itself was rated "more than adequate" for regular riding. One honest note from that same test: the chin vent throws air more at the visor than the rider's face, which is good news against fogging and less good news if you're relying on it to cool your chin.

The visor: coating, release, Pinlock readiness

Optical class 1 rating, anti-scratch coating, no tools needed to pull it off. It's built to accept a Pinlock 70 insert, but that insert doesn't come in the box — buy it separately if you're riding through anything colder or wetter than a dry summer evening, because without it a closed-up helmet fogs under hard breathing. Shark's IRID photochromic visor range doesn't stretch to the Ridill 2 at all; only the Aeron GP, Aeron and Race R Pro qualify, so a self-tinting screen here is aftermarket territory.

Black Anthracite Silver, on the shell itself

This is one of the more literal colour names in the range: black gives way to a genuinely metallic anthracite-and-silver scale texture spreading from the crown across the sides, thinning out again near the rear exhausts. Compared with the violet-and-teal Reptaia colourway sold alongside it, this one reads calmer and more monochrome — silver catches light rather than colour-shifting. A gloss clear-coat locks the print in place, resists scuffing well, and wipes clean easily, though it will show a fingerprint faster than a matte shell would.

Everyday touches

Crown slider, drop-down sun visor, no need to stop and swap screens for a low sun. Cheek pads shaped to clear glasses arms. Shell ready for a Sharktooth- or SENA-type comms unit straight out of the box, no modification. Outer visor off in seconds, no tools, for a wipe-down or a swap.

Sizing: two shells, six results

XS through XXL split across two separate shell tools rather than one shell with variable padding, so the smallest helmet in the run doesn't look — or feel — oversized, and the largest isn't cramming a big head into a shell meant for someone smaller. Visordown's own M-size review called the fit "very good" and "extremely comfortable", flagged a wide opening that makes putting the helmet on painless, and found the cheek area close without pressing.

Where this sits: Ridill 2, D-Skwal 3, Skwal Cup

209.99 euro buys this Reptaia decor — a step above the 189.99-euro plain colours in the same line, still the entry point into Shark's full-face range as a whole. Move up a tier and the D-Skwal 3 starts at 219.99 euro, adding a wind-tunnel-developed shell and more decor choice. One tier higher again, the Skwal Cup opens at 269.99 euro with a CFD-shaped rear spoiler built for stability at speed. Laid out like that, the price ladder tells you exactly what you're paying extra for at each rung, rather than leaving it to guesswork.

On wind noise: no invented numbers

There's no lab-measured decibel rating anywhere for this helmet, and a made-up number would be worse than none at all. What's on record is a road tester's own words from Visordown: "a quiet helmet to use at motorway speeds" — earplugs still recommended for any long stint, and a touch of buffeting at motorway pace that they called "not horrendous". That's a rider's subjective read from an actual ride, not a measurement from a facility, because no such measurement has been published for this helmet.

Spares down the road

Shark keeps a spare-visor line that names the Ridill 2 directly, alongside the Skwal Cup, D-Skwal 3 and Skwal i3 — seven screens on offer, dark smoke to iridium tints to a clear Pinlock-ready option. A scratched or misted visor is a part number, not a reason to buy a new helmet.

What you don't get

No MIPS liner. No electronic quick-release. No Pinlock insert in the box, just the mount for one. No chin skirt, so expect more cold air at the neck than a touring-shaped helmet would let in. SHARP did test a "Ridill 2" — four stars, ECE 22.06, February 2025, the right generation — but that same listing prints a retail price of 549 pounds that plainly has nothing to do with this helmet's real cost anywhere it's sold; treat it as an error on SHARP's page, not a price quote. No FIM racing homologation, no rear spoiler: a road helmet, priced and equipped like one.
