Subsonic is the angular graphic family — hard edges and directional shapes rather than gradients — and this is its matt black and red reading. It is the version that looks fastest standing still.

The SHARP rating this helmet does not have

The honest position on safety evidence for the Y.100R: four market homologations (ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC, NBR), one independent scored road test, and no laboratory star rating of any kind.

About the Subsonic Black Red graphic

Angular graphics do something gradients cannot: they give a shell a sense of direction, which on a helmet designed around airflow is a legitimate visual argument rather than decoration. Subsonic's shapes run front to back, following the same line the double-blade spoiler works on. The matt finish underneath keeps the whole thing from becoming glossy and busy at once. Practically, matt absorbs the handling marks a daily helmet picks up, and the dark ground hides road film. 🔵 It also holds dust more visibly than gloss, and matt is washed rather than polished — there is no clear coat to buff a scuff out of.

Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS

Nexx quotes 1575 g ±50 for this shell. An independent reviewer weighed a size M and recorded 1617 g — inside the stated tolerance at the top end, which is a fair result rather than an exaggerated claim.

The construction is Polyfusion thermoplastic in two outer shell sizes, over dual-EPS.

X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds

Two visors, a Pinlock lens, a nose guard and a wind deflector, all in the box. For a helmet at this price that is an unusually complete package, and X-SWIFT is what makes the second visor worth having rather than leaving in a drawer.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

Three optical layers rather than two on this helmet: the outer visor with its supplied Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens, and the internal sun shield behind them. Rain, fog and glare are all covered without carrying a spare visor.

Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures

The shell was shaped for two things at once: stability and sound insulation at speed. Those usually pull together, because both come from reducing turbulence rather than from adding material.

🔵 The measured outcome was around 100 dB with a 4/5 noise score — better than either of Nexx's premium adventure helmets managed in the same test series.

Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement

The intakes are integrated into the shell's shaping rather than bolted on, which is part of why the profile stays smooth — and a smooth profile is what produced the 100 dB noise result alongside the ventilation one.

Interior, retention and fit

Comfort scored 3 out of 5 in the one independent scored test of this helmet — adequate rather than exceptional, and consistent with a thermoplastic helmet at this price. Noise and ventilation both scored 4/5 in the same test.

🔵 The same reviewer described the fit as perfect for their own head shape, which is a data point rather than a promise.

Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list

Three independent scores exist for this helmet and they are worth reading together: noise 4/5, ventilation 4/5, comfort 3/5. The weak mark is comfort, which on a 1.6 kg helmet is not surprising.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

The Y.100R's closest competitors are other thermoplastic sport full-face helmets with an internal sun visor, and its case against them rests on three things: two visors in the box, an independently measured 100 dB noise figure, and a zero-degree ventilation result.

🔵 Its weakness against them is weight, at around 1.6 kg.

Comms, camera and spare parts

🔵 A word on visor care, because it prevents most of the visor sales we make. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against headlights at night.

Wet it first. A second visor comes with the helmet, so a scratched one is not a crisis.
