DescriptionThe whole story

White with orange is the most useful non-fluorescent combination here. Orange is the colour the human eye resolves fastest in flat light; white keeps the helmet's overall value high so it works in bright conditions too.

What this helmet is — honestly

An honest summary of what this helmet is: a safe, well-finished, current-standard full-face with the equipment stripped back to keep the price where it is.

🔵 The two things you will notice most are the weight (~1.6 kg) and the missing sun visor. Both are covered properly further down this page rather than glossed over.

About the Core B0 graphic

Being seen is the single most useful thing a commuting helmet can do for you, and this pairing covers both ends of the light range without going fluorescent. Orange holds up in overcast conditions and at dusk where red flattens out and dark colours disappear; white does the work in daylight and against dark tarmac. Together they give a broader conspicuity range than either alone. 🔵 The white areas show road film sooner than the orange ones, so the helmet weathers unevenly between washes, and orange pigment fades faster than most under UV.

HIRP and ECE 22.06

What you are buying structurally: a HIRP thermoplastic shell, a polystyrene impact liner, and full ECE 22.06 homologation to the current European standard.

🔵 What you are not buying is a composite shell or a low weight — and that is most of why the helmet costs what it does.

The sun visor this helmet does not have

The missing sun visor is the feature this helmet is most often compared on, and rightly so — it is the difference between flicking a lever at a junction and stopping to change a visor.

🔵 The Stinger 2's compensation is that the change itself is quick: MT-QVSS swaps the visor in seconds without tools.

MT-V-28B, MT-QVSS and the Pinlock you buy separately

🔵 Order visors and lenses by designation rather than by helmet name. This helmet uses the MT-V-28B visor and the DKS435 Pinlock lens; neither interchanges with other MT models, including the Thunder's MT-V-28C.

Neither the lens nor a smoked visor is supplied.

The MT-MDTC closure

🔵 Two things to get right before your first ride: the strap length, set bare-handed at home, and the fit itself. Neither can be corrected on the road, and the closure only solves the first.

The Stinger 2 uses the MT-MDTC micrometric double-teeth closure, adjustable in fine steps.

Interior, fit and washing

Speaker pockets are shaped into the lining rather than being space you have to make, which is what stops an intercom speaker pressing on your ear over a long ride.

🔵 The rest of the interior is hypoallergenic and machine-washable, and all of it comes out.

Universal UCS intercom slot

🔵 If navigation prompts are the reason you want an intercom, be aware that this helmet has no sun visor — so a bright morning means squinting at a phone screen at junctions unless you have fitted a tinted visor.

The intercom provision itself is a universal UCS slot with dedicated speaker pockets.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 Two accessories are worth budgeting alongside the helmet: the Pinlock DKS435 insert and an optional smoked visor. Together they add perhaps 50–60 €.

Even fully equipped, the total sits below MT's cheapest full-face that has a sun visor built in.

When something wears out

🔵 The Pinlock DKS435 insert is the first accessory most owners buy, because it is not supplied and a winter commute mists the visor at every stop. It is a consumable too — the seal loses grip and the surface clouds after a few seasons.

Order it by the DKS435 designation for this helmet.

Specification

  • Model — MT-Helmets Stinger 2
  • Part number — 1334C76B0102
  • Colour — Core B0 — Gloss, white and orange
  • HomologationECE 22.06 — MT states the helmet exceeds the standard
  • 🔴 Safety rating — none — SHARP has never listed the Stinger 2; no ADAC or Snell result, and no independent road test has been published
  • Helmet type — Full-face, entry-level / commuting
  • ShellHIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer)
  • Weight — approx. 1.6 kg — heavier than MT's dearer models and than any composite shell
  • SizesXXS to XXL (seven sizes)
  • VisorMT-V-28B polycarbonate, sealed against the shell, with MT-QVSS tool-free quick swap
  • 🔴 Anti-fog — Pinlock® DKS435 ready — insert sold separately, not supplied
  • 🔴 Sun visornone. An optional smoked visor is available; a drop-down shield is not fitted to this model
  • RetentionMT-MDTC — Micrometric Double Teeth Closure
  • Interior — hypoallergenic, fully removable and machine-washable
  • Communicationuniversal UCS intercom slot with dedicated speaker pockets — no system supplied
  • Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
  • Serviceability — visor, Pinlock lens, cheek pads and complete lining all available separately
  • Made for — commuting, city and short-distance riding — not a long-distance touring helmet
  • Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
  • Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large
  • Care — the lining is machine-washable; never wipe the visor dry, as road dust scratches it permanently
  • Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
  • 🔴 Ventilation — MT publishes no detailed ventilation specification for the Stinger 2, and no independent test has measured it. We are not going to describe a system we cannot document — treat airflow as the open question on this helmet
  • Head protection — full-face — unlike a jet, the chin and jaw are covered, which is the single largest protective difference between helmet types
  • Worth budgeting — a Pinlock DKS435 insert for winter and an optional smoked visor for summer — neither is supplied, and together they add roughly 50–60 € to the helmet
  • Compared with the Thunder 4 R SV — that helmet adds an integrated sun visor, a supplied Pinlock lens and roughly 100 g less weight, for nearly twice the price. Both are HIRP shells homologated to ECE 22.06 — the difference is equipment, not protection standard

“Four intakes and two exhausts that testers found kept up in 29-degree heat, plus a tool-free visor change and three homologations including DOT and INMETRO. The weight and the lack of an independent crash test are what hold it back.”
