DescriptionThe whole story▼
The blue Axium colourway swaps the red accent of its sibling for a cooler, medium-dark blue running along the same lines: a swoosh over the crown and a thin edge tracing the chin bar, set against the identical dark anthracite-and-carbon base. Same restrained graphic language, different accent, same shell and equipment as the rest of the Spartan GT Pro Carbon range.
ECE 22.06, whichever accent colour
Blue accent or red, the certificate reads the same: UNECE R 22-06. Compared to the 22.05 rule it replaced, more points on the shell get struck, several speeds per point, and rotational force is now scored where it once was not.
Fibreglass and carbon, not carbon on its own
Shark's own catalogue labels this shell "Fibre": carbon fibre integrated into a fiberglass weave, distinct from a solid carbon-aramid construction, built across two mould sizes with a foam core stepped through multiple firmness zones. Compared with the plain-fibreglass Spartan GT Pro it is a real, moderate upgrade in weight and rigidity.
Carrying 1,465 g across a full ride
Shark's figure for the smaller shell is 1,465 g, with the bigger sizes on a second mould running a little heavier. That weight barely registers in the first few minutes on the bike -- it builds as neck and shoulder fatigue across hours in the saddle, exactly where a lighter shell in this class actually earns its keep.
Ventilation that switches off, not just on
Shark runs three front intakes and two rear extractors through its double-Venturi system, built to move air below motorway speed as well as above it. Visordown's independent test confirms both the chin-bar intakes and rear exhaust ports genuinely close, letting this shell vent hard in summer and seal tight in winter -- rated decent rather than outstanding by that same review.
Visor: central lock, factory-fitted Pinlock
The same VZ300 visor equips the Spartan RS, the Spartan RS Carbon and this helmet. Optical class 1 glazing spans 2.8 mm down to 2.2 mm, held by a central grip and lock instead of a side catch, and ships with a clear Pinlock 120 insert already fitted. Blue, pink and red iridium finishes work for daytime roads; smoke, silver and rainbow stay track-only.
Everyday usability details
The UV380 anti-fog sun visor drops on one external slider, no glove removal needed. Its mount detaches tool-free, glasses arms slot into a cut groove in the shell, and this model works with Shark's own Sharktooth intercom as well as SENA units.
Safety kit, plainly listed
An EPS liner graded through several firmness stages absorbs impact energy under the shell, and the strap closes with a double-D ring rather than a buckle that can loosen under load. Shark's Emergency Release hardware frees the cheek pads without moving an injured rider's neck -- an EQRS by function. MIPS never appears in Shark's documentation for this helmet, and none is claimed here.
Interior and fit
ALVEOTECH antimicrobial fabric lines the interior, shaped into 3D morphological cheek pads per Shark's own collection copy rather than flat pads relying on foam bulk. Independent review confirms the whole interior -- pads, neck roll, skull cap -- comes out for a wash. Six sizes span XS to XXL across the two shell sizes used throughout the range.
Why the same graphic in a different accent
Offering the same restrained Axium graphic in both red and blue accent colours gives riders a choice without multiplying the number of distinct patterns Shark has to design and mould around -- a practical reason a line like this carries near-identical decors in more than one colourway, rather than a sign either version is less considered than a one-off design. Either accent works equally well against the same dark base, and neither one is positioned as the \"better\" choice here -- it comes down to which colour a rider already runs on their bike or gear, nothing more technical than that. As with its red-accented sibling, nothing about the certification, the shell, or the equipment list changes here -- the graphic and its accent colour are the only variables between the two.
Price position on the Spartan ladder
Shark's own pricing draws four real steps: Spartan RS Fibre at the entry point, Spartan RS Carbon above it, the non-carbon Spartan GT Pro with Sport-GT comfort but no carbon shell, and Spartan GT Pro Carbon on top. This decor sits in the middle of that top step, matched by its red-accent sibling and the other graphic finishes at the same tier.

Wind noise, reported honestly
No independently measured decibel figure exists for this helmet, so none is stated here. BikeSocial's road test of the 22-06 generation credits a tighter, elasticated neck roll engineered specifically against wind noise, at a small cost to how easily the helmet goes on; Visordown separately describes wind noise in normal use as kept to a relative minimum. Neither is a lab reading, and neither is presented as one.
Spare parts
The same Shark listing that stocks Spartan RS visors also stocks this GT Pro's, and the Range Book shows the VZ300 part shared across three related Spartan builds. A scratched visor is a spare part, not grounds for a new helmet.
What this helmet does not have
No MIPS or comparable rotational-impact liner is fitted, and none is claimed. This visor platform is not documented as tear-off compatible. An older Shark helmet, carrying no "Pro" in its own SHARP listing, holds the 4-star, August-2021 result -- not this one.
