Pure is the plain line of the Viale SV S, and gloss white is the version that does most for you in the traffic this helmet is built for. On an urban jet, being seen is the whole safety strategy above the shoulders.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 The Viale SV S is an open-face jet. It has no chin bar, and the ECE 22.06 open-face category makes no provision for chin or jaw protection — a substantial share of impacts land in exactly that region.

That is the trade for the view, the air and a helmet you will put on for a two-minute journey. On a scooter in town it is a reasonable trade; at speed it is not.

About the gloss white finish

City riding is the condition in which a motorcyclist is least expected and most often looked through — a driver pulling out of a side road has a fraction of a second, in cluttered light, against a busy background. A white helmet at head height is resolved measurably sooner than a dark one, and it sits above the headlight where the eye actually scans. On a jet the argument is stronger still, because your face is already exposed and the helmet is the only high-contrast thing you are wearing above the collar. There is a thermal benefit alongside it that matters on a helmet with no ventilation system to speak of: a pale shell reflects solar load that a dark one converts into interior heat, and city riding is mostly slow. 🔵 The cost is dirt — road film shows on white sooner than on anything else here, and gloss shows swirls if you dry-wipe it. That is a maintenance question rather than a durability one: washed properly the finish holds for years, and the conspicuity it buys you does not fade.

ECE 22.06, DOT — and what „with all accessories" means

MT states the Viale SV S passed ECE 22.06 and DOT with all included accessories fitted — which is a more useful claim than it first appears, because certification normally tests a bare helmet.

🔵 Anything mounted on a shell afterwards is outside the scope of an approval. A helmet designed to pass with its own accessories in place is a different proposition.

HIRP — and a weight figure worth reading carefully

The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — and MT's general catalogue quotes around 1.2 kg.

🔵 MT's own product page publishes no weight at all, only „lightness". Retailers list roughly 1150 g. We use MT's catalogue figure and tell you it is not page-verified rather than presenting an estimate as a specification.

The drop-down sun visor

The integrated drop-down sun visor is what the „SV" in the model name stands for, and it is the single feature that separates this helmet from MT's cheaper Street S jet.

🔵 On an urban helmet it is also the most useful convenience there is: glare protection at the flick of a slider, with no sunglasses to carry and no visor to change.

The MT-V-26B visor — and what this helmet does not have

The main visor is the MT-V-26B, available in Clear, Dark, Iridium and Iridium Blue. The clear one is fitted as standard.

🔵 There is no Pinlock insert for this visor. MT offers none, and none exists — so anti-fog on this helmet comes from airflow and from cracking the visor rather than from a lens.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

Retention is MT-Micrometric+ — a micrometric ratchet that fastens one-handed, adjusts in fine steps and works in gloves, which on a helmet fastened ten times a day matters more than the theoretical advantages of a double-D ring.

🔵 Check the adjustment every few months. A ratchet has a set position that can drift.

Interior, fit and washing

The interior is fully removable and washable, which on a helmet worn daily in a city is the single most useful maintenance feature there is — and one MT's cheaper Street S does not have.

🔵 Wash it a few times a season. Sweat breaks down foam over time, and a jet's padding collects road dust as well.

Intercom compatibility

The helmet is intercom-compatible, which at 72 € is not a given — MT's cheaper Street S is not.

🔵 No system is supplied. Check speaker depth as well as diameter before buying one; on an open-face there is less padding around the ears than on a full-face, so depth is what decides whether a speaker presses.

Where it sits in MT's range

The Viale SV S sits between MT's cheapest jet, the Street S at 47 €, and the fully equipped Cosmo SV at 106 €.

🔵 What it adds over the Street S: a drop-down sun visor, a removable washable interior and intercom compatibility. What it gives up against the Cosmo SV: the MT-ESP full-coverage shield, the removable rear deflector and the patented visor system.

When something wears out

Everything on this helmet that wears is available separately: the MT-V-26B visor in four tints, cheek pads and the complete lining.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside.
