DescriptionThe whole story▼
Shark's own price-list colour code for this Dashed variant reads Blue Purple Blue, but the product photography shows a dark matte navy base with hot pink and magenta diagonal accents, alongside cyan-blue shapes — not a violet-purple tone in any meaningful amount. This listing follows the photograph over the supplier's colour code where the two do not agree.
What a daily rider actually notices
Not the graphics, most days — the internal sun visor that drops with one hand, the intercom unit that fits without drilling or trimming the shell, and the outer visor that comes off for cleaning without hunting for a screwdriver.
A fit built around actual daily wear
Removable, washable liner; cheek pads cut for glasses; six sizes across two shells rather than one — three fit decisions aimed at a helmet that gets worn every day, not just tried on once in a shop.
Same visor, five different helmets
Whichever of the D-Skwal 3, Skwal i3, Skwal i Cup, Skwal Cup or Ridill 2 a rider chooses, the visor is the same VZ400 family: Optical class 1, vortex generator, 3 mm to 2.2 mm variable thickness, anti-scratch coating, Pinlock 70 fitted with adjustable tension, tool-free central lock.
Vent layout, confirmed independently
Two chin-mounted intakes, two crown-mounted exhausts, every one glove-operable: that is the D-Skwal 3's airflow system as confirmed by a 1,700-mile independent test, which rated it adequate for normal riding and flagged hot-weather limits addressed by cracking the visor.
What the smaller-shell figure implies
Shark publishes 1,540 g for the D-Skwal 3's first, smaller shell — a figure that will run a little higher on the bigger shell covering sizes L to XXL. Either way, it sits within the roughly 1,250-1,800 g range typical of road-legal full-face helmets, a weight measured in hours of neck support rather than a moment on a shop counter.
The Dashed matte finish, in use
A matte navy base carries thin pink and cyan-blue diagonal lines rather than a bold colour block, giving this decor a cooler, more understated read than the gloss white or black Dashed siblings. Matte finishes generally hide fine scuffs under direct light better than gloss, at the cost of showing fingerprints more readily.
The matte-navy Dashed carries the same EUR 269.99 as its two gloss siblings. Its quieter, more understated look is a style choice here, not a discount.
What the EPS liner actually does
Multi-density EPS spreads impact absorption unevenly on purpose — firmer where the geometry demands it, softer elsewhere — rather than relying on one foam density everywhere. It sits inside the thermoplastic shell described above, under whichever decor is fitted.
Price context that holds up
Set against Shark's current road-helmet range, this decor's price reads as follows:
At EUR 269.99, this is where the decor itself sits.
| Helmet line | Starting price |
| D-Skwal 3 | from EUR 219.99 |
| Skwal i3 | from EUR 319.99 |
| Ridill 2 | from EUR 189.99 |
| Skwal Cup | from EUR 269.99 |
Current list prices, Shark's 2027 road range. The comparison is deliberately price-only; the other three helmets' construction and features are not detailed here.
Said directly, not buried
This helmet does not carry MIPS, EQRS or tear-off posts, and IRID photochromic tinting is not offered on it (reserved for the AERON GP, AERON and RACE R PRO). It holds ECE 22.06 certification only, no FIM. SHARP lists a 'Shark D-Skwal' from 2018 under the older 22.05 standard — a different helmet from this D-Skwal 3, which has no SHARP score of its own.
The abrasive-anvil test, explained
One part of ECE 22.06 involves striking the shell at an angle against a rough, abrasive surface — the abrasive anvil — to simulate a helmet scraping and rotating across tarmac rather than hitting it square on. That test, plus a rotational Brain Injury Criterion score, eighteen impact points at multiple speeds, and testing with visor, Pinlock and comms fitted, is what this helmet's ECE 22.06 certification (mandatory in the EU since January 2024, no FIM suffix) actually covers.
What Shark means by focused performance
Not every performance feature belongs on an everyday helmet, and the D-Skwal 3's spec sheet reflects a set of deliberate choices about which ones do: aerodynamic stability, certified protection, and a properly specified visor, without the added weight or cost of a competition-grade feature set nobody uses on the school run.
A closer look at Dashed, in matte navy
The third Dashed colourway departs furthest from its two gloss siblings: a matte dark navy base rather than gloss white or black, with thin pink and cyan-blue diagonal lines rather than the bold red-and-blue stripe blocks of the other two. Shark's own price-list colour code names this variant Blue Purple Blue, but the actual product photography shows hot pink and magenta accents rather than a violet-purple tone in any meaningful amount, alongside the cyan-blue — a mismatch between the supplier's colour code and what the photograph shows, and this listing follows the photograph. The result reads as the quietest, most understated of the three Dashed variants, better suited to a rider who wants the family's diagonal-stripe design language without the higher-contrast boldness of the white or black gloss siblings.
A matte navy base hides road grime reasonably well day to day, though the thin pink and cyan stripe details benefit from a gentle, non-abrasive clean to avoid dulling their contrast against the matte surface over time. Sizing runs the same XS-XXL chart as the rest of the range.
Choosing this matte-navy Dashed variant over its two gloss siblings is largely a statement of restraint: same diagonal stripe layout, but toned down in both colour saturation and surface shine compared with the bolder white or black gloss options in the same family.
The wind-noise verdict, from an independent source
A journalist's own long-term test, not this listing, is the source: pretty loud without earplugs, with a whistle above roughly 25 mph whenever the visor is cracked open for extra airflow. No manufacturer decibel figure is quoted because none has been reliably published.
Spares that outlast a graphic decor
Whatever happens to this decor's finish over time, the visor itself stays supported: Shark's spare-visor collection names the D-Skwal 3, alongside the Skwal Cup, Ridill 2 and Skwal i3.
Decor HE0936BVB carries the same 2206 homologation code as the rest of the D-Skwal 3 range, with no FIM suffix. A Sharktooth or SENA intercom unit fits decor HE0936BVB's shell at purchase or later, without any modification needed. Decor HE0936BVB's micrometric buckle and multi-density EPS liner are identical to every other D-Skwal 3 on sale, independent of the graphic on top. Whatever graphic sits on top, decor HE0936BVB's underlying weight, shell count and closure hardware match the rest of the D-Skwal 3 line exactly. Decor HE0936BVB's six sizes, XS through XXL, follow the same size chart as the rest of the D-Skwal 3 range, so a rider's usual Shark size carries over directly. Decor HE0936BVB ships from the same Portuguese production line as the rest of the D-Skwal 3 range, with no separate sourcing for this particular graphic.
