DescriptionThe whole story

Gloss black is the most-bought finish on any urban helmet and the one that asks nothing of you visually. Nothing about it competes with the scooter or the motorcycle, and nothing about it dates.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 The honest paragraph. This helmet protects the skull; it does not protect the face. No certification changes what is physically absent, and no amount of shell engineering compensates for a missing chin bar.

If chin coverage matters to you, MT's Stinger 2 full-face costs 12 € more and covers your jaw.

About the gloss black finish

On a helmet at this price the finish quality is where corners are usually cut, and gloss black is the least forgiving colour to get right — every ripple in the moulding shows in the reflection. That the Viale SV S carries it cleanly says something useful about the shell. The maintenance is the standard gloss-black bargain and it cuts both ways: road film against dark clear coat is maximum contrast, dry-wiping leaves permanent swirls, and washing wet with a clean cloth afterwards does not. 🔵 It is also the least conspicuous version here, on a helmet aimed squarely at city traffic — which is precisely where conspicuity earns its keep. If your riding is a daily commute rather than weekend use, the white or the silver do more for you. On the other hand, gloss black is the finish that ages most gracefully on a plain dome: there is no graphic to date, no trim colour to fade, and nothing about it that will look wrong in five years. For a helmet bought to be used rather than admired, that counts for something.

ECE 22.06, DOT — and what „with all accessories" means

🔵 Dual homologation is a genuine difference rather than a marketing one. ECE 22.06 and DOT test differently, and a helmet has to satisfy both — which not every jet at this price attempts.

The Viale SV S carries both, on a HIRP shell in sizes from XXS to XL.

HIRP — and a weight figure worth reading carefully

🔵 The weight figure here deserves care. MT's product page states no number; the 1.2 kg comes from general catalogue copy, and retail listings suggest closer to 1150 g ±50.

Either way it is a light helmet — on a jet there is simply less material than on a full-face, and no chin bar to carry.

The drop-down sun visor

Sunset on a westbound commute is the condition that decides whether a sun visor was worth having, and it is precisely the condition a fixed tinted visor handles worst — half an hour later it is dark and you cannot see through it.

🔵 A drop-down shield retracts in a second and costs you nothing when it is up.

The MT-V-26B visor — and what this helmet does not have

🔵 Being straight about what this helmet does not have. MT claims no ventilation system, no Pinlock compatibility and no quick-change visor mechanism for the Viale SV S. We are not going to describe features the manufacturer does not list.

What it does have: a drop-down sun visor, a removable washable interior and dual ECE 22.06 / DOT approval.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

🔵 A micrometric ratchet is the right closure for an urban jet, because you use it more than on any other helmet type — on and off at every shop, every stop, every errand.

Correct tension: one finger under the strap with the helmet on, and no more.

Interior, fit and washing

🔵 A removable interior is the specification that decides whether an inexpensive helmet lasts three years or one. A liner that cannot be washed becomes unpleasant long before the shell is worn out.

The Viale SV S's comes out entirely by hand.

Intercom compatibility

🔵 A jet is the easiest helmet type to hold a conversation in without any electronics at all, which is worth remembering before buying an intercom for one — at city speeds you can simply talk to the person beside you.

Where it earns its place is navigation prompts and calls.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 The clearest comparison in MT's jet range. Street S 47 € — no sun visor, no removable liner, no intercom. Viale SV S 72 € — all three. Cosmo SV 106 € — all three plus a full-coverage shield and active ventilation.

All three are HIRP shells with ECE 22.06 and DOT approval.

When something wears out

🔵 On a helmet at this price, being repairable is what decides whether it lasts three years or one. A scratched visor or a compressed lining should be a part rather than a new helmet.

Visors, cheek pads and complete linings are all stocked for the Viale SV S.
