DescriptionThe whole story▼
A pink shell is unusual on any helmet and rarer still on a demi-jet, and this one is worth pointing out because it is a proper saturated pink rather than a pastel afterthought.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
An open-face is a deliberate compromise rather than a compromised full-face. What you gain is real: an unobstructed field of view, airflow no ventilation system can imitate, and a helmet that comes off in a second at a fuel stop.
🔵 What you give up is chin and jaw protection entirely. The ECE 22.06 jet category covers the rest of the head and not that.
About the Icarus A8 finish
Colour choices on inexpensive helmets usually play safe, and this one does not — which is most of its appeal. Practically it is a high-value finish, so it carries a genuine conspicuity benefit in the flat light where a city rider most needs one, without going fluorescent. It is also one of very few options at this price for a rider who does not want black, grey or white. 🔵 The trade is the usual one for bright gloss finishes: road film shows readily, dry-wiping leaves swirls, and saturated pigments fade faster than dark ones under sustained sun. Store it out of direct light.
HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT
Seven sizes from XS to 3XL is a wider range than most demi-jets offer, and the 3XL in particular is genuinely hard to find in an open-face at any price.
The construction is HIRP thermoplastic, homologated to ECE 22.06 and approved to DOT.
MT-ESP — a full-coverage sun visor on a jet
An internal sun visor on a demi-jet at this price is genuinely unusual, and a full-coverage one more so. It is the single feature that makes the Cosmo SV usable across a whole day rather than only in one light.
🔵 It deploys with one movement and retracts completely out of the way.
The MT-V-37 visor and the patented MT-QVSS
🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries. On this helmet the question largely disappears — the full-coverage MT-ESP sun shield drops behind a clear visor and retracts instantly.
The main visor is the extended MT-V-37, supplied clear.
Active ventilation and the removable rear deflector
🔵 The rear deflector is also a noise control, which is unusual on a helmet at this price. Removing hardware from behind a helmet changes the wake, and the wake is where a large part of perceived noise is generated.
Try it fitted and removed on your own bike — the difference varies with the screen in front of you.
The MT-Micrometric+ closure
Every closure component on a helmet at this price is a cost decision, and MT chose a micrometric ratchet with a specified minimum engagement rather than a simpler buckle.
🔵 That is one of several places where the Cosmo SV is better specified than its price suggests — alongside the patented visor system and the full-coverage sun shield.
Interior, fit and intercom preparation
🔵 Measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and compare against the chart on this page. The Cosmo SV runs from XS to 3XL, which is unusually wide for a demi-jet.
Between two sizes, take the one that does not move when you push the helmet forward with the strap fastened.
The most common reason riders abandon an intercom is a speaker pressing on the ear over a long day, and it is almost always a depth or positioning problem rather than a fault of the system.
🔵 A designed-in pre-installation addresses exactly that. Nothing is supplied with the helmet.
The weight figure, and the rest of the honest list
The Cosmo SV's specification is unusually complete for a demi-jet: dual homologation, a patented quick-change visor, a full-coverage sun shield, active ventilation, a removable deflector and intercom pre-installation.
🔵 What it does not have: a chin bar, a Pinlock option, or any independent test result.
Where it sits in MT's range
Buying a Pure version rather than a graphic saves 8 € and changes nothing else — same HIRP shell, same MT-V-37 visor, same MT-ESP sun shield, same MT-Micrometric+ closure.
🔵 The graphics buy artwork, not capability.
When something wears out
🔵 The colour-matched vent pieces are separately available, which matters more than it sounds: they are the parts most likely to be broken by a drop, and a mismatched replacement would be visible on a helmet where they are part of the finish.
Order them against the exact colour code of your helmet.
