DescriptionThe whole story▼
Wild Pro Grey is the least expensive way into the carbon shell, and it is a plain finish rather than a graphic — which means the 65 g saving over the composite version is what you are actually paying for.
Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer
Two EPS shells with a rubber layer between them is a more complex construction than a single moulded liner, and it costs weight. The trade Nexx made is deliberate: they accepted a heavier helmet in exchange for decoupling the interior from the buffeting.
🔵 That decision explains most of the difference between this helmet and the lighter X.RALLY.
About the Wild Pro Grey finish
Grey is the most underrated finish on an adventure helmet and the most practical one here. Fine trail dust reads as a haze against black and as an obvious film against white; against a mid grey it largely disappears, which over a long trip means a helmet that still looks presentable at the end of it. It is also meaningfully more visible than black in the light that matters — dull, flat, overcast — without being a bright colour that dominates everything else you are wearing. 🔵 This is the version we would recommend to a rider who wants the carbon shell, does not care about graphics and does not want to think about the helmet again.
The X-PRO Carbon shell and the X-Foam bumpers
This version uses the X-PRO Carbon shell — the lighter of the two constructions at a claimed 1725 g against the composite shell's 1790 g.
Beneath it sits the two-part EPS with its rubber interlayer, and X-Foam EPP bumpers cover the chin and sides. Approvals are identical to the composite version: ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC and NBR.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | multiaxial fibreglass + 3D organic fibre, Kevlar/aramid, carbon reinforced | 1790 g ±50 | Plain, GOBI |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1725 g | Wild Pro, KEYO, FURKA, Zero Pro, Golden Dune |
F.R.S.® — both cheek pads at once
Worth practising once at home rather than reading about. Lift the rubberised arm on each side, slide the red button back, and the cheek pads come away together — and go back in just as easily, which is not true of every quick-release system.
🔵 If you ride alone in remote places, it is also worth knowing that a passer-by can work it without being told how.
Recoil visor, sun visor and the second shield in the box
Fogging is the adventure rider's real optical problem rather than glare, because so much of the riding happens too slowly for airflow to clear a visor. The included Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens covers the full width of the aperture rather than leaving a clear border.
🔵 The Pinlock lens is a consumable — the silicone seal loses grip and the surface clouds after a few seasons.
Seven intakes — and a measurement that disagrees
The airflow path is unusual and worth describing properly: air enters through the intakes, travels through the gap between the inner and outer EPS around the head, and exits at the rear. Most helmets simply pass air over the crown under the liner.
🔵 The independent measurement of what that delivers was 1/5. The mechanism is documented; the result is disappointing.
How loud it actually is
The peak comes off without tools using anti-twist fixing screws, and taking it off for a motorway section is the intended use rather than a workaround. The shell is shaped to work without it.
🔵 With the peak fitted, independent measurement put the X.WED3 at 103 dB at 130 km/h, scored 3/5.
Interior, materials and fit
Three outer shell sizes cover XXS to XXXL, which does the coarse fitting before the padding is involved. Measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and compare against the chart on this page.
🔵 The X.WED3 was independently found true to size — unusual enough among adventure helmets to be worth stating.
1725 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Nexx quotes 1725 g for the X-PRO Carbon shell — 65 g under the composite version and still heavy by any standard. The two-part EPS with its rubber interlayer accounts for much of it.
🔵 The honest list: no SHARP rating, no ADAC or Snell result, measured ventilation 1/5, measured noise 103 dB, overall 3.4/5.
Goggles, comms, camera and spare parts
Moulded reflectors are worth more than the stickers most helmets use, for one reason: they will still be there in five years. On a helmet ridden on unlit roads far from home, that is functional rather than decorative.
Alongside them: X-COM3 comms integration, POV Kit provision and a double-D ring with X-LOCK magnetic catch.
