DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plain Black is the entry point to the X.RALLY and the version that makes the fewest claims. Same three modes, same Recoil visor, same X-Foam bumpers as the carbon helmets above it — a different shell and no graphic.
Three modes in one shell
The X.RALLY converts between three modes without tools. Dual-Sport: peak and visor together, with the winter chin vent. Off-Road: peak on, visor off, goggles and maximum airflow. On-Road: peakless, smooth, for the motorway home.
That third mode is the one most owners underuse. A peakless X.RALLY is a materially quieter helmet at speed.
| Mode | Peak | Eye protection | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual-Sport | fitted | Recoil visor | mixed days, low sun, spray |
| Off-Road | fitted | goggles (not supplied) | trail and enduro, maximum airflow |
| On-Road | removed | Recoil visor | motorway transfers — the quietest setting |
About the Plain Black finish
The plain finishes exist for riders who intend to use the helmet rather than photograph it, and black is the most sensible of the two. An adventure helmet is handled constantly — carried by the peak, set on panniers, wiped with whatever is to hand — and gloss black shows every mile of that until it is washed. What it also does is keep the helmet visually simple, which suits a bike already carrying luggage, guards and lights. 🔵 It is the least conspicuous version in a range where several are deliberately bright, and on unlit roads in unfamiliar places that is worth a thought.
The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers
This version uses the X-Matrix2 shell — a six-layer fibreglass composite rather than the carbon used higher in the range. It is the heavier of the two constructions at a claimed 1475 g, and it is the reason this helmet costs what it does.
Over the whole lower shell, including the chin, sit X-Foam EPP bumpers: an ultralight foam layer intended to absorb impact energy at the part of the shell that hits the ground first.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | six-layer fibreglass composite | 1475 g | Plain, YUMA | 399,99 € |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) | PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 | 559,99 € |
The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box
The Recoil Visor System is the mechanism riders notice first. Spring-loaded base plates tension the visor automatically against dual-lip beads, so the seal is made by the mechanism rather than by how hard you push the visor shut.
A photochromic shield and a clear visor are both supplied, with a Pinlock 200 XLT MaxVision anti-fog lens fitted from new.
Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them
On paper the ventilation is extensive: 9 intakes and 6 exhausts, cheek-pad ventilation, a mid air chamber, the Air Cumbs cooling chamber and a dedicated winter chin vent.
🔵 In practice the independent findings disagree. ChampionHelmets measured a 3 °C interior-to-ambient delta and scored ventilation 2/5; Bike EXIF, riding it, said it „moves air like an open-face helmet". Both are on the record and we are not going to hide either.
How loud it actually is
Noise is measured rather than guessed here: an independent road test recorded 103 dB and scored the X.RALLY 3 out of 5 for wind noise.
🔵 That is normal for a peaked helmet and not a criticism of this one. The single most effective thing you can do about it is run On-Road mode with the peak removed — and earplugs on any long fast day.
Interior, hydration routing and fit
The liner is a 3D mesh built to move air while shielding the skin from dust and sand, and the X-HIDRO cheek pads carry straps to route the tube and mouthpiece of a hydration bladder — a genuinely rare feature and an obvious one once you have used it.
Retention is a Pearaluman aluminium-magnesium double-D ring with an X-LOCK magnetic catch for the loose end, and the chin-strap covers are removable.
1475 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Nexx quotes 1475 g for the X-Matrix2 shell, 125 g above the carbon version. On an adventure helmet worn upright in clean air for hours, that difference is felt in the neck rather than in the hand.
🔵 Treat the figure as a manufacturer's claim. When the same reviewer weighed the carbon version of this helmet, it came out roughly 200 g above its published number.
Where it sits — and who should buy something else
The X.RALLY is Nexx's hard-enduro helmet made road-usable, and it sits at the off-road end of their adventure line. The X.WED3 approaches the same problem from the other side — a touring helmet with a peak rather than an enduro helmet with a visor.
🔵 If most of your mileage is tarmac, look at the X.WED3 or the X.LIFETOUR before committing to this one.
Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts
The helmet is universal-intercom ready — ear recesses plus a mount slot, rather than a proprietary system you are locked into. There is also a POV camera kit available, with top, side and four-position chin mounts.
Night-vision reflectors are moulded into the shell. 🔵 No intercom and no camera mounts are supplied with the helmet.

“Full marks on airflow and off-road kit. The peak comes off for the road sections and the eye port takes goggles for the rest, which is exactly what an enduro helmet has to do. Only the weight keeps it from a clean sweep.”
