What an open-face helmet does and does not do

That is the fact that should decide whether an open-face suits your riding — not the price, and not the convenience.

About the Tasty C6 finish

A deep green under a flat finish reads as an earth tone rather than as a sporting colour, which suits an urban helmet worn with ordinary clothes rather than with a riding suit. It is also a durable choice in the sense that matters: green carries no reference to a particular season's palette, so it will look current in five years in a way a bright graphic will not. Practically it sits mid-range on every scale — better at hiding road film than the white or the silver, more visible in flat light than either black. 🔵 Matt is washed rather than polished, and it holds dry dust more readily than gloss. On a helmet used daily in a city, that is a fair trade for a finish nobody else on your street will have. It is also the version that looks most deliberate with ordinary clothing rather than riding gear, which on a scooter helmet is usually the point. Green is also the hardest of the five to match if you later want a second helmet in the family — worth knowing, not a reason against.

ECE 22.06, DOT — and what „with all accessories" means

MT lists the Viale SV S under its EcoConscious programme, a materials and production commitment rather than a performance claim. We report it as such.

HIRP — and a weight figure worth reading carefully

The structure is conventional and appropriate: an injection-moulded HIRP shell to spread the load and resist penetration, over a polystyrene liner that absorbs energy by permanently crushing.

🔵 A crushed liner does not recover. After a real impact the helmet is finished, whatever it looks like from outside.

The drop-down sun visor

🔵 A tinted visor is not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. A retractable internal shield sidesteps the question entirely — it is up when the light goes.

The MT-V-26B visor — and what this helmet does not have

Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

🔵 Wet it first, every time. With no Pinlock available and no quick-change mechanism claimed, the visor you have is the one you will keep.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

Practise fastening it once with the gloves you actually ride in. A micrometric ratchet is the easiest closure to operate in gloves, but the strap length has to be set correctly first — and that is done bare-handed, once.

Interior, fit and washing

Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. On a jet a badly fitting helmet shows itself faster than on a full-face, because there is no chin bar spreading the load across your head.

🔵 Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. A helmet you can rotate by hand is too big, whatever the tape says.

Intercom compatibility

🔵 If navigation prompts are the reason you want an intercom, the sun visor matters alongside it: a bright morning otherwise means squinting at a phone screen at every junction.

The Viale SV S has both the shield and the intercom provision; neither the system nor a phone mount is included.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 MT's range is unusually consistent: almost everything is built on the HIRP platform, with the carbon KRE+ S as the single exception. What changes between models is the body type and the equipment rather than the construction.

When something wears out
