DescriptionThe whole story▼
Zombie II is the other illustrated graphic in the range and the more chaotic of the two — red and two blues over black, with none of Kaiju's symmetry.
1350 grams, and why that is the headline
For riders coming from an entry-level full-face, the weight is the thing they notice first. Many helmets at the bottom of the market sit at 1600–1700 g, and the gap is immediately obvious.
🔵 The Rapid III's 1350 g is measured on a mid-size shell without accessories, as every published helmet weight is.
HPTT shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06
The construction is conventional and competently executed: an HPTT shell in three sizes, an EPS liner, ECE 22.06 approval, and a ratchet closure.
🔵 Nothing exotic. That is the correct set of decisions.
No independent safety rating — and the trap that goes with it
🔵 Where a rating exists we quote it and link it. Where one exists for a different generation of the same name, we say so and leave it out.
The FF820 Rapid III: no independent rating. The FF353 Rapid: 2 stars, and a different helmet.
About the Zombie II graphic
Where Kaiju II is built around a single subject and stays broadly symmetrical, Zombie II runs its artwork across the shell without a centre, which means the helmet looks meaningfully different from each side. That is either the appeal or the problem depending on how you feel about it, and it is worth looking at photographs from more than one angle before deciding. The three-colour palette also puts more light-value elements on a dark base than Kaiju does, so it is marginally the more conspicuous of the two. 🔵 Neither is a bright helmet. Both are black-based and both carry black's disadvantage in poor light, with the coloured artwork doing what visibility work there is. And as with any complex printed graphic, damage cannot be touched in — a deep scratch on the artwork stays. Wash it wet and never dry-wipe. One more consideration if you are torn between the two illustrated finishes. Kaiju II is the one that still looks deliberate when you are not in the mood for it; Zombie II is the one with more going on and more to notice. Both cost the same, both are black-based, and both make you exactly as hard to see in a grey November dusk as the plain matt black does.
What this helmet does not have: an internal sun visor
🔵 This is the specification where the Rapid III's price shows. A drop-down shield is a mechanism, a second screen, and the shell volume to house both — and it is absent here.
The upside sits in the weight: 1350 g rather than the 1550 g of the equivalent LS2 helmet that has one.
Chin and top intakes, channelled EPS
🔵 A breath deflector is a small piece of foam and rubber that redirects your exhaled air downwards rather than up the inside of the visor. It costs nothing, weighs nothing, and makes a real difference to fogging.
The Rapid III has one fitted, along with a chin curtain.
Anti-fog — prepared for, not supplied
Grade 70 is Pinlock's mid specification and is entirely adequate for road use. Grade 120 is the premium tier and costs more.
🔵 The Rapid III's visor is prepared for the 70 MaxVision, and neither grade is included.
Lining, closure and everyday comfort
There is no magnetic wind deflector and no branded comfort fabric on this model — both appear further up LS2's range.
🔵 What is here is a chin curtain, a breath deflector, a hypoallergenic antibacterial lining and a ratchet closure. That is a complete specification.
Where it sits in LS2's range
Choose the finish on how you want to be seen rather than on what the small surcharge might buy in performance. It buys artwork, and nothing else.
🔵 The four solids and the fifteen graphics are crash-equivalent.
Care and replacement parts
Vent covers, the chin curtain and the breath deflector are all replaceable, which matters on parts that come on and off with the seasons and get lost in drawers.
🔵 Nothing on this helmet that moves is sealed into the shell.
In the box
- LS2 FF820 Rapid III helmet — Zombie II, Black, red and blue (HPTT shell)
- Clear outer visor, fitted
- Chin curtain, fitted and removable

- 🔵 No second visor and no intercom — both are separate purchases
Size guide
Head shapes vary more than sizes do, and the difference is felt rather than measured. Long-oval heads press front and back; round heads press at the temples.
🔵 Ten minutes with the helmet on tells you which is happening.

Specification
- Model — LS2 FF820 Rapid III
- Part number — 168200726
- Colour — Zombie II — Black, red and blue
- Homologation — ECE 22.06
- 🔴 Safety rating — none. SHARP has no entry for the FF820, Rapid III or Rapid 3 (brand list checked directly). The 2-star result under „FF353 Rapid" belongs to the previous-generation helmet — different shell, different standard — and is deliberately not carried over. No ADAC or Certimoov result either
- Shell — HPTT injection-moulded thermoplastic; three shell sizes (2XS–S / M–L / XL–3XL)
- Weight — approx. 1350 g (±50 g), mid-size shell without accessories
- Sizes — 2XS to 3XL (eight sizes)
- 🔴 Sun visor — none. This helmet has no drop-down internal shield — unlike LS2's FF808 Stream II, FF811 Vector II and FF817 Challenger II. It is most of the reason it weighs 1350 g
- Visor — clear outer visor, scratch-resistant, tool-free change
- 🔴 Anti-fog — prepared for Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ — the insert is NOT included. The pins are fitted; the lens is a separate purchase
- Ventilation — chin and top intakes feeding channelled EPS, with rear exhausts — two intake paths, one more than the FF817. 🔵 Assessed from the published construction; no independent airflow measurement exists
- 🔴 Wind noise — left unrated — no independent measurement is published for this model
- Retention — ratchet buckle
- Interior — hypoallergenic, antibacterial, fully removable and washable. 🔵 No branded wicking fabric (no COOLMAX or X-Static) and no magnetic wind deflector — both appear further up LS2's range
- Included — chin curtain and breath deflector, both fitted and removable
- 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet, not eligible for FIM-sanctioned competition
- Serviceability — visors, cheek pads in several thicknesses, complete lining, chin curtain, breath deflector and vent covers all available separately
- Replacement guidance — after about five years regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
