DescriptionThe whole story

Please note: sale to France is prohibited.

White has a particular logic on an open-face helmet used in town, which is where most jets spend their lives. Urban riding is where a rider is least expected and most often looked through — and white is the shade a driver's eye resolves first at a junction.

What MOTORRAD measured, and how

Twenty jet helmets, one comparison, and a „very good" verdict for this one — MOTORRAD, issue 21/2025. Worth knowing how they arrived at it: laboratory testing at TÜV Rheinland and acoustic measurement at 100 km/h in Schuberth's wind tunnel, rather than opinion gathered on a ride.

🔵 MOTORRAD awards worded verdicts, not school grades. Any numeric „score" you find for this helmet is a third-party conversion, not the magazine's own result.

About the gloss white finish

The conspicuity argument is stronger for a jet than for a touring full-face, because the riding is different. Motorway traffic sees you coming for several seconds; a driver pulling out of a side road has a fraction of one, in poor light, against a cluttered background. In that situation a white helmet at head height is the single most useful bright object you can carry, and it sits well above the headlight where the eye actually scans. There is a thermal benefit too, and on an open-face it compounds: a pale shell reflects solar energy that a dark one converts to heat, and with three intakes and three exhausts already moving air, the helmet stays genuinely cool. The cost is visible dirt — white shows a wet week in a way grey simply does not.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

An honest paragraph before anything else. This helmet protects the skull; it does not protect the face. ECE 22.06 has a separate, less demanding test regime for open-face helmets precisely because there is no chin bar to test, and no certification changes what is physically absent.

🔵 If chin protection matters to you, the GT-Air3 shares this helmet's sun visor and acoustics in full-face form.

AIM, three shells, and a buckle that will not open by accident

Three shell sizes on an open-face helmet is a specification most manufacturers skip, because jets are a lower-margin format and tooling is expensive. The consequence of skipping it is visible: a one-shell jet in a small size sits high and wide on the head, which is exactly the look people mean when they call a helmet a mushroom.

The J-Cruise 3 uses three tools across XS to XXL, in an AIM fibreglass composite.

CJ-2 and QSV-2 — and the Pinlock that is not in the box

A spoiler edge along the top of the CJ-2 keeps draught from creeping in over the visor, and a lock prevents it opening unintentionally at speed — two details that matter specifically on a jet, where there is no chin bar to shelter the aperture and the airflow reaches the visor edge directly.

🔵 The helmet is Pinlock EVO ready; the DKS105 lens is a separate purchase.

Three in, three out — the rebuilt ventilation

Seventy per cent more extraction is a specific number and worth reading correctly. Extraction is the exhaust side of a ventilation system, and it is the half that actually determines flow — air does not enter a helmet because the front vents are open, it enters because the low-pressure region behind the shell is pulling it out at the back.

Three intakes and three exhausts, reworked from the previous generation.

Interior, ear pads and talking to the helmet

Ear pads on a jet do more work than they do on a full-face. With no chin bar, turbulence from beneath the shell reaches the ear region directly rather than being partly blocked — so the pads are the main acoustic component the helmet has, and taking them out is a noticeable change rather than a marginal one.

They are removable, which makes it a seasonal decision: in for winter and motorway, out for hot city riding.

Where it sits in Shoei's range

The comparison worth making is not against the other jet but against the GT-Air3 fifty euros above it. Both share the QSV-2 sun visor, the AIM shell and the COMLINK interface; one has a chin bar and one does not.

That is the entire decision, and it is a protection question rather than a value one.

Around 1400 grams, and the rest of the honest list

Weight is the specification where this helmet wins outright. At roughly 1400 g it is around three hundred grams lighter than Shoei's touring full-face and three hundred and fifty lighter than the modular — a difference your neck registers over a long day far more clearly than any of the other numbers on this page.

The costs are a missing chin bar, a Pinlock sold separately and an intercom sold separately.

When something wears out

The interior decides how long a jet lasts you, and it wears faster than a full-face interior does — not from longer exposure but from more frequent handling. A helmet put on and taken off five times a day accumulates friction on the cheek pads that a touring helmet worn once a day does not.

All padding is removable, washable and available separately.

In the box
