DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nomad is the more traditional of the two graphics on this shell, and A15 carries it in gloss red — the most conspicuous version in the range and the one that most obviously reads as a road helmet with a peak.
Four SHARP stars — the only MT helmet that has any
🔵 One caveat applies to every SHARP rating, including this one: the stars describe the helmet, not the fit. A four-star helmet that is loose on your head will not perform as it did in the laboratory, because it moves.
With that said, the result is verifiable and unusually good for the money: 4 of 5 stars, tested April 2026 under ECE 22.06.
About the Nomad A15 graphic
It is worth saying plainly that most dual-sport helmets spend most of their lives on tarmac, and a red one acknowledges that rather than pretending otherwise. Red is a high-saturation colour that holds up well against grey road surfaces, which puts it among the more visible options here without going fluorescent — and on unfamiliar roads among drivers not expecting motorcycles, that is a functional argument. 🔵 The known weakness is ultraviolet: red pigment fades faster than most, and a helmet left strapped to a bike through a summer will lose depth. Keep it out of direct sun when parked, and never dry-wipe the gloss — road film against a saturated clear coat is exactly where swirl marks show worst. Washed properly it stays deep for years; wiped dry once a week it will not.
Dual-sport — a full-face with a peak
What makes this a genuine dual-sport rather than a styled one is the combination: a full-face shell with a peak and a retractable sun visor, so you have shade from above and glare protection ahead without carrying a second visor.
🔵 It also means more hardware in the airstream than a plain road helmet has, which is the honest cost.
HIRP, ECE 22.06 — and two different weights
What a thermoplastic shell means in practice: it is injection-moulded rather than laid up by hand, which makes it cheaper to produce and heavier than a composite of equal strength.
🔵 That the Track SV nonetheless earned four SHARP stars is the useful part — shell material and test performance are related but not the same thing.
The MT-ESP retractable sun visor
🔵 With the shield down and the main visor closed you are looking through two surfaces, and any scratch or fog on either becomes visible. Keep both clean, and never wipe either dry — trail dust is far more abrasive than road film.
The shield retracts fully rather than sitting in your upper field of view.
The HS-12 visor and the anti-fog insert you buy separately
Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — trail dust is far more abrasive than road film, and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.
🔵 Wet it first, every time.
ERS — the Emergency Release System
🔵 The ERS pulls are also what you use to take the pads out for washing, which means the mechanism stays familiar rather than being something nobody has ever touched.
On a helmet used off tarmac, where the interior collects dust as well as sweat, that is a practical benefit as well as a safety one.
Interior, fit and intercom preparation
Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. A loose helmet moves under braking and rotates in a crash — and a four-star SHARP rating describes the helmet, not the fit you achieve with it.
🔵 Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. It should not be possible to rotate the helmet on your head by hand.
The micrometric closure
Practise fastening it once with the gloves you actually ride in. A micrometric ratchet is the easiest closure to operate in gloves, but the strap length has to be set correctly first — and that is done bare-handed, once.
🔵 On a helmet you fasten in cold, wet and hurried conditions, that one minute at home pays for itself.
Where it sits in MT's range
🔵 MT's range is unusually consistent: almost everything is built on the HIRP platform, with the carbon KRE+ S as the single exception. What changes between models is the body type and the equipment rather than the construction.
The Track SV is the dual-sport in that range — and the SHARP-tested one.
When something wears out
🔵 Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare part on any helmet and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with wear and solve a hot spot that would otherwise mean a different helmet — and on a SHARP-rated helmet, fit is what makes the rating meaningful.
Genuine MT pads and complete liners for the Track SV are available.
