DescriptionThe whole story

Please note: sale to France is prohibited.

Off White is the colour that road racing was painted in before sponsorship arrived, and on the Glamster06 it is doing a historical job rather than a decorative one. Warm, slightly aged, and the natural base for a hand-painted number if you ever want one.

Five SHARP stars — and which Glamster earned them

A five-star SHARP result is unusual on any helmet and genuinely rare on one built around a classic silhouette, because compact retro shells have less room to work with than modern ones. The Glamster06 has it: 5 of 5, tested May 2025.

🔵 The predecessor is a separate entry with a separate result — „Shoei Glamster", August 2021, ECE 22.05, four stars. Two helmets, two tests, two ratings.

About the off white finish

Pure white is a modern colour; this is not pure white. Pulling the value down and warming it slightly is what separates a 2020s helmet from one that looks like it came out of a 1970s paddock, and on a shell with this silhouette the difference decides the whole impression. It is also the most useful base colour in the range for anyone who plans to add tape stripes or a roundel — a graphic version cannot be modified, a plain off-white shell can. Practically it carries every advantage of a pale helmet: it reflects solar energy a dark shell absorbs, and it is meaningfully easier to see in dull light at head height. What it does not do is hide a wet week; off white shows road film sooner than anything else here except the yellow.

AIM, three shells, double-D and EQRS

Three outer shell sizes — XS–M, L and XL–XXL — are what keep the compact silhouette in proportion at every size. A single shell padded down for a small head produces a helmet that looks visibly oversized on it, which would defeat the entire point of this design.

Underneath: AIM fibreglass composite, multi-density EPS, double-D retention and EQRS emergency cheek pad release.

The CPB-1V visor — and the sun shield that is not there

🔵 The absence worth knowing about before you buy: no drop-down sun visor. On a helmet designed around a compact shell there is nowhere to put one, and Shoei chose the silhouette.

The answer is the visor itself. The CPB-1V comes in tinted versions and in a photochromic one that darkens with UV and clears again at dusk — which does the same job without the extra shell depth. A Pinlock EVO lens is included as standard.

One intake, aluminium mesh, no sliders

The aluminium mesh in the chin intakes is the detail that gives this helmet away as something more considered than a styling exercise. Mesh instead of sliders means nothing to break, nothing to jam with grit and nothing that rattles — and it looks like a component rather than a moulding.

Above it, a single forehead intake opens and closes with no intermediate positions; the exhaust is at the neck.

Interior, fit and glasses

A compact helmet only feels good if the interior is right, because there is less padding between you and the shell than in a bulky one. Shoei's answer is modularity: head pad, both cheek pads and the chin strap covers all come out, all wash, and the cheek and centre pads exist in several thicknesses.

MCN rated the Glamster06's comfort 5/5 over a long-term test — the top mark.

How loud it actually is

🔵 Wind noise depends more on your motorcycle than on your helmet, and riders consistently underestimate this. A screen that puts turbulent air at head height will make any helmet loud; a naked bike with clean airflow will make the same helmet quiet.

Against that background, MCN rated the Glamster06 4/5 for noise, with the supplied chin curtain fitted.

Around 1300 grams, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 If you ride with an intercom, this is the wrong helmet and it is better to know now. There is no COMLINK interface, no cable routing and no dedicated speaker recess — MCN's long-term test confirmed the point. Anything you fit will sit on the padding rather than in it.

In exchange: around 1300 g, three shell sizes and the most compact full-face shell in Shoei's range.

Where it sits in Shoei's range

Against the GT-Air3, the comparison is about equipment rather than protection. The GT-Air3 adds an internal sun visor, SHOEI COMLINK communication routing and considerably more ventilation; the Glamster06 gives all of that up for a compact shell and a shape that has not existed on a new helmet in fifty years.

Both are ECE 22.06. Choose by what you want the helmet to be.

When something wears out

A helmet that can be repaired is a helmet worth keeping. Everything on the Glamster06 that wears or breaks is separately available: visor, base plates, all interior padding, chin strap covers, chin curtain.

🔵 The one thing that cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner — after a real impact the helmet is finished, whatever it looks like from the outside.

“The retro full-face done properly: vintage silhouette, modern homologation, five SHARP stars and a visor seal that keeps it quiet. It loses ground here only to open-face helmets, which fit the café racer brief more literally.”
