What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 The Street S is an open-face jet. It has no chin bar, and the ECE 22.06 open-face category makes no provision for chin or jaw protection — a substantial share of impacts land in exactly that region.

That is the trade for the view, the air and a helmet you will put on for a two-minute errand. On a scooter in town it is a reasonable trade; at speed it is not.

About the gloss white finish

City and scooter riding is the condition in which a motorcyclist is least expected and most often looked through — a driver pulling out of a side road has a fraction of a second, in cluttered light, against a busy background. A white helmet at head height is resolved measurably sooner than a dark one, and it sits above the headlight where the eye actually scans. On a jet the argument is stronger still, because the helmet is the only high-contrast thing you are wearing above the collar. There is a thermal benefit alongside it that matters here more than on most helmets, because MT lists no ventilation system for the Street S: a pale shell reflects solar load that a dark one converts into interior heat, and scooter riding is mostly slow. 🔵 The cost is dirt — road film shows on white sooner than on anything else here, and with a fixed liner you will be wiping the shell more often than washing the inside. The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — and MT quotes approximately 1025 g, which makes the Street S the lightest helmet in MT's entire range.

🔵 Retail listings vary between 950 and 1050 g. On a jet with no sun visor mechanism and no ventilation hardware, that lightness is a consequence of the simplicity rather than of exotic materials.

The long MT-V-15B visor

The MT-V-15B is a long visor — noticeably deeper than a typical demi-jet screen — which is what gives the Street S more weather protection than its price suggests. The clear version is included.

🔵 A longer visor covers more of the face against wind and rain at speed, which is the main practical weakness of the open-face format.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

Retention is MT-Micrometric+ — a micrometric ratchet rather than a simple buckle, which at 47 € is better than the class usually gets.

Cleaning a helmet with a fixed liner
