DescriptionThe whole story

Crazy Teddy is the outlier in the Braker SV range — a light blue graphic that makes no attempt at the sport-touring seriousness the rest of the line goes for. It is the version bought deliberately rather than by default.

Entry sport-touring — and what that means

🔵 Dual homologation is a genuine difference rather than a marketing one. ECE 22.06 and DOT test differently, and a helmet has to satisfy both — which not every helmet at this price attempts.

The Braker SV carries both, on a HIRP shell of roughly 1525 g.

About the Crazy Teddy B7 graphic

Light blue occupies useful ground between the neutral solids and the shouting ones. It keeps a genuinely high value, so it does much of what a white helmet does for conspicuity in dull light, but it is a colour rather than an absence of one — which means it works alongside a motorcycle instead of disappearing next to it. It is also one of the few shades that has never belonged to a particular decade. 🔵 The trade is the usual one for pale gloss finishes: road film shows readily, and a printed graphic cannot be touched in after a stone strike.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

The structure is conventional and appropriate: an injection-moulded HIRP shell to spread the load and resist penetration, over a polystyrene liner that absorbs energy by permanently crushing.

🔵 A crushed liner does not recover. After a real impact the helmet is finished, whatever it looks like from outside.

The single-action sun visor

🔵 With the shield down and the main visor closed you are looking through two surfaces, and any scratch or fog on either becomes visible. Keep both clean, and never wipe either dry — road dust scratches the shield as readily as the visor.

It retracts fully into the shell rather than sitting part-way in your upper field of view.

MT-QVSS, and the anti-fog insert you buy separately

Fogging is decided at low speed — junctions, traffic, waiting — where there is no airflow to clear a visor. Without an anti-fog insert a cold commute will mist the visor at every stop.

🔵 The Braker SV is ready for Pinlock DKS435 or FogOff FOG010, and neither is supplied. Budget roughly 25–40 € for one.

Three intakes and a spoiler that vents

🔵 In stationary traffic no helmet ventilates well — airflow needs airflow. Where a commuting helmet is most tested is exactly there, and a pale shell does more for you at a standstill than any vent setting.

The Braker SV offers a gloss white and a gloss grey among its solids.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

🔵 Practise fastening it once with the gloves you actually ride in. A micrometric ratchet is the easiest closure to operate in gloves, but the strap length has to be set correctly first — and that is done bare-handed, once.

Correct tension: one finger under the strap with the helmet on, and no more.

Interior, fit and the nose deflector

Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. A loose helmet moves under braking and rotates in a crash; a tight one produces a headache at forty minutes.

🔵 Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. Measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows.

Universal UCS intercom mount

🔵 A universal mount rather than a proprietary one keeps the choice open and the price down, which is the right priority on an entry sport-touring helmet.

Fit whatever communicator you already own; the mount takes standard units.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 MT's range is unusually consistent: almost everything is built on the HIRP platform, with the carbon KRE+ S as the single exception. What changes between models is the body type and the equipment rather than the construction.

The Braker SV is the entry sport-touring full-face in that range.

When something wears out

🔵 A word on visor care, because it prevents most of the visor sales we make. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

Wet it first, every time. MT-QVSS makes replacing a scratched visor a ten-second job.

  • Helmet type — Full-face, entry sport-touring
  • ShellHIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer)
  • Weight — approx. 1525 g
  • Sizes — XS to XXXL (seven sizes)
  • VisorMT-V-28B with MT-QVSS two-button tool-free quick release
  • 🔴 Anti-fog — ready for Pinlock® DKS435 or FogOff FOG010neither insert is supplied
  • Sun visorsingle-action drop-down shield — one movement of the slider
  • Ventilation — three air intakes and an integrated rear spoiler with an air exhaust. 🔴 No independent measurement of the airflow exists
  • RetentionMT-Micrometric+ micrometric closure
  • Interior — fully removable and washable
  • Communicationuniversal UCS intercom mount — takes standard communicators; no system supplied
  • Also supplied — nose deflector
  • Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
  • Serviceability — visor, anti-fog insert, sun shield, lining, cheek pads and nose deflector all available separately
  • Made for — commuting, country roads and moderate distances — not a long-distance touring helmet
  • Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
  • Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
  • Worth budgeting — an anti-fog insert — Pinlock DKS435 or FogOff FOG010 — before the first cold month. Neither is supplied, and a winter commute mists the visor at every stop without one
  • Compared with the Stinger 2 — that helmet costs 30 € less and has no sun visor, no DOT approval and no spoiler. Both use HIRP shells homologated to ECE 22.06 — the difference is equipment, not protection standard
  • Compared with the Thunder 4 R SV — that helmet costs 42 € more and adds a Pinlock DKS435 insert in the box plus roughly 25 g less weight, on the same HIRP platform
  • Care — wash the lining by hand a few times a season; never wipe the visor or the sun shield dry, as road dust scratches both permanently
  • Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large

“MCN calls it a shrewd budget choice and the numbers agree: quiet at road speeds, decent airflow, a sun visor that locks properly and no rattles. At 115 € the only thing it really gives up is weight.”
