DescriptionThe whole story

Pure is the plain line of the Atom 2 SV, and gloss white is the version that does most for you on the long, unfamiliar roads a modular helmet is bought for.

A chin guard that opens — and the P/J question

A flip-up gives you the one thing a fixed full-face cannot: the chin guard opens at the lights, at a fuel stop, at a border. The Atom 2 SV releases it with a single button, workable one-handed and in gloves.

🔵 MT documents ECE 22.06 and DOT approval but does not state a P/J dual homologation. P/J is what makes riding with the chin bar raised legal in most of Europe — check the label on the helmet before assuming you may.

About the gloss white finish

Touring means roads you do not know and drivers who are not expecting you, and a white helmet at head height is resolved measurably sooner than a dark one in exactly those conditions. There is a thermal argument alongside it that matters on a flip-up: the chin-bar mechanism and the sealing make a modular helmet a warmer object than a fixed full-face, and a pale shell reflects solar load rather than converting it into interior heat. 🔵 The cost is dirt — insect strike and road film show on white sooner than on anything else here, and a flip-up has a chin-bar seam that collects both.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — at approximately 1.7 kg, with a rear spoiler that hides the ventilation exhaust rather than sitting on top of it.

🔵 It carries ECE 22.06 homologation and DOT approval; MT states the helmet exceeds both.

MT-ESP — a sun visor that meets the nose deflector

The MT-ESP sun visor is the retractable shield with extended coverage — and the detail that matters is that its lower edge aligns with the nose deflector, so there is no bright gap between the two.

🔵 On most helmets the shield stops short and low sun comes in underneath it. This one is designed against exactly that.

MT-FSOS, MT-ESLS and the Pinlock in the box

Two mechanisms work the visor and they do different things. MT-FSOS — Fast Shield Opening System — opens it quickly and includes an automatic anti-fog position, a defined crack that clears the visor without letting the weather in.

MT-ESLS is the screen release, and it carries a dedicated ventilation position of its own. A Pinlock® DKS512 lens is included as standard.

The double-hook closure

Retention is MT-Micrometric+ with a double-hook MT-MDTC engagement — specified against accidental opening rather than merely for convenience.

🔵 On a flip-up that matters more than usual: there are two mechanisms that must not open unintentionally, and this is one of them.

A spoiler that hides the exhaust

The rear spoiler hides the ventilation exhaust, so the outlet sits in the low-pressure region behind the helmet without being a visible hole in the shell — neat packaging rather than a styling part.

🔵 The MT-ESLS screen release adds a dedicated ventilation position for the visor itself, which on a flip-up is often more effective than any vent.

Interior, fit and the chin curtain

The interior is fully removable and washable, and a chin curtain is included — which on a flip-up matters more than on a fixed full-face, because the chin-guard seam is an extra path for cold air and noise.

🔵 Wash the lining a few times a season. Sweat breaks down foam over time, and a lining washed regularly lasts appreciably longer.

Intercom preparation

The helmet is intercom-ready, which on a modular matters more than on most: a flip-up is bought for distance, and distance is where navigation prompts and rider-to-rider communication earn their keep.

🔵 No system is supplied. Check speaker depth as well as diameter before buying — a speaker that presses on the ear is the usual reason riders abandon an intercom.

Where it sits in MT's range

The Atom 2 SV is MT's mid-range modular and the successor to the best-selling Atom SV. Alongside it sit the Genesis R SV and the Streetfighter SV S, both flip-ups on the same HIRP platform.

🔵 What separates the Atom 2 SV is the visor package: MT-FSOS with an automatic anti-fog position, MT-ESLS with a ventilation position, and a Pinlock lens included.

When something wears out

Everything on this helmet that wears is available separately: the MT-V-35 visor, DKS512 Pinlock lenses, FogOff FOG013 inserts, cheek pads, the complete lining and the chin curtain.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside.

Specification

  • Model — MT-Helmets Atom 2 SV
  • Part number — 133500PA0103
  • Colour — Pure A0 — Gloss white
  • HomologationECE 22.06 and DOT; MT states the helmet exceeds both
  • 🔴 P/J dual homologationnot documented by MT. P/J is what makes riding with the chin guard raised legal in most of Europe — check the approval label on the helmet before relying on it
  • 🔴 Safety rating — none — SHARP has never listed the Atom 2 SV, and modular helmets are rarely tested by the programme. No ADAC or Snell result, and no independent road test has been published
  • Helmet type — Modular / flip-up, all-round touring
  • ShellHIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer), with a rear spoiler concealing the ventilation exhaust
  • Weight — approx. 1.7 kg — typical for a thermoplastic flip-up; the format carries 150–250 g over a fixed full-face
  • Sizes — XS to XXL (six sizes)
  • Chin guard — single-button release, operable one-handed
  • VisorMT-V-35 with MT-FSOS fast opening including an automatic anti-fog position, and MT-ESLS release with a dedicated ventilation position
  • Anti-fogPinlock® DKS512 included as standard; FogOff FOG013 is a compatible alternative
  • Sun visorMT-ESP retractable shield with extended coverage that aligns with the nose deflector
  • RetentionMT-Micrometric+ with a double-hook MT-MDTC engagement against accidental opening
  • Interior — fully removable and washable
  • Also supplied — chin curtain
  • Communication — intercom-ready — no system supplied
  • Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
  • Serviceability — visor, Pinlock lens, sun shield, lining, cheek pads and chin curtain all available separately
  • Flip-up maintenance — check the chin-guard pivot and its seals annually — dust and water are what seize a modular mechanism
  • Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
  • Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
  • Compared with the Thunder 4 R SV — that fixed full-face is around 200 g lighter and cannot open at a stop. Both use HIRP shells; only the Atom 2 SV adds DOT approval alongside ECE 22.06
  • Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large — and on a 1.7 kg modular a poor fit shows itself sooner than on a lighter helmet
  • Care — wash the lining by hand a few times a season; never wipe the visor or the sun shield dry, as road dust scratches both permanently

“The modular mechanism works without snags and the padding holds up over distance. Against it: 1,700 g, no independent test result, and conflicting reports on how quiet it really is at speed.”
