DescriptionThe whole story▼

This decor does not replicate a single rider's helmet; it carries the MotoGP name itself, Shark's own paddock identity rather than a specific competitor's livery. A matte black base runs into a gunmetal-grey panel across the crown and side, cut through with thin red stripes that read as speed lines rather than a flag or a sponsor block — a graphic built around the championship's visual language, not a copy of any one rider's helmet.

Grid-derived aerodynamics on a road helmet

The MotoGP name attached to this decor is not just borrowed prestige. Underneath the paint sits a fin Shark built and tested in its own wind tunnel for exactly this open-face shell, because an open helmet loses the sealed front a full-face relies on to keep air from tumbling off the back edge at speed. What the fin does is give that air a defined path to leave by, instead of letting it separate and drag at the rider's neck through a fast section of road. That is a genuine piece of engineering carrying the series' name, not a sticker riding on unrelated hardware.

Shell, sizes, closure

Lexan polycarbonate, moulded in two separate shell sizes (XS-M, L-XXL, confirmed by independent motorcycle press coverage of this model) rather than a single shell padded to fit the whole range. The closure is a micrometric buckle, quicker to adjust one-handed than the double-D ring fitted to the full-face Skwal Cup.

What ECE 22.06 actually tests, on an open face

ECE 22.06 is not a rebrand of the old 22.05 standard, and it is worth spelling out why before it becomes a line item nobody reads. 22.05 struck five points on a shell, each at one speed. 22.06 strikes eighteen, across several speeds, and adds an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil — a twisting, glancing hit rather than a straight one — alongside a newly scored Brain Injury Criterion for rotational forces the older test ignored. Testing happens with the visor, Pinlock and any comms unit mounted, matching how the helmet is actually worn. This model's paperwork carries Norme 2206, with no FIM suffix: road homologation, not a competition rating.

1,430 g and neck load

Shark's quoted figure is 1,430 g (+/-50 g) for the smaller of the two shell sizes — a number that matters across a full ride, not only in a single impact, since a helmet's weight sits above the head's own centre of gravity and is carried through every head movement. The open face's absent chin bar is the main reason this stays inside the typical road-helmet band rather than climbing toward the heavier end of it.

Ventilation

Two intakes, two extractors, and a direct path between them: that is the ventilation on this shell, kept deliberately simple because an open face already does the hard work of getting air to the rider's forehead without a chin bar in the way. It is not trying to be a sealed touring helmet with a dozen vent positions; it is a jet helmet doing what a jet helmet is good at.

Visor and Pinlock

The visor family here is VZ670, the same one fitted to the plain Skwal Jet and the LED-equipped Skwal i3 Jet: Optical Class 1 rated, anti-scratch treated, locking from the side rather than the centre, with a vortex generator built into the edge. A Max Vision Pinlock 70 insert ships pre-fitted with adjustable tension. Road-legal for every rider is the clear tint alone; every iridium and dark-smoke option in Shark's range for this shell is racing use only.

Sun visor and everyday use

An internal drop-down sun visor works independently of the main visor, and the interior cut is glasses-friendly, avoiding the temple pinch some helmets are known for. Shark specifies SENA intercom compatibility for this model directly.

Fit: what six sizes across two shells means

Six sizes, two shells: XS-M in the compact mould, L-XXL in the larger one. That is what stops a smaller head from riding around under an oversized shell padded out to fit, and it is why the weight figure quoted earlier holds up reasonably well across the size run rather than only at its smallest point.

Wind noise, honestly

Open-face helmets are louder at speed than full-face helmets, as a rule, because there is no chin bar and the visor sits closer to the jawline — this shell is no exception. The spoiler and the visor's vortex generator both manage turbulence, but neither closes that fundamental gap. Shark has not measured or published a decibel figure for this model, and this text does not guess one.

Price ladder

MotoGP sits at the top of the non-replica Jet Cup pricing, level with the named-rider replicas that follow.

Skwal Jet same VZ670 visor family, no rear spoiler
Skwal Jet Cup this helmet
Skwal Cup same spoiler and CFD-developed shell, full-face
Skwal i3 Jet open face, adds an LED brake light this helmet does not have

Spares

Shark's spares collection for this shell covers the plain Skwal Jet and the Skwal i3 Jet as well, all three sharing the VZ67005PINCTU Pinlock 70 insert — a common part, not a niche one tied to a single decor.

What this helmet does not protect

There is no chin bar on this helmet. Nothing about the spoiler, the visor or the ECE 22.06 rating changes that basic fact: in an impact that would load a full-face's chin section, this shell has no structure over the jaw at all. That is the open-face trade-off, made deliberately for airflow and sightline, and it is worth understanding clearly rather than assuming any of the other specifications compensate for it.

Reading the graphic

The matte black base, gunmetal panel and thin red stripe work are printed under the clear coat rather than applied as a separate decal layer, so the graphic sits flush with the shell and will not lift or peel at the edges over time. It is a restrained take on paddock branding — no rider name, no sponsor wall, just the series' own colour language worked into Shark's shape.

Who this decor suits

MotoGP suits a rider who wants a visible connection to the championship without wearing another person's name and number — Shark's own paddock branding rather than a specific competitor's identity, which makes it a graphic that ages better than a single season's rider livery might. It also ages well against a bike's own paint scheme, since gunmetal grey and matte black sit neutrally next to most factory colours rather than competing with them the way a brighter replica graphic can.
