DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Core is the Y.100 without a graphic, and matt black is its most understated version. The shape and the extra-wide eye port do the talking, which on a helmet designed in a wind tunnel is the right order.
The SHARP entry we cannot attribute to this helmet
🔵 An open question we would rather put in front of you than leave out. SHARP's database contains an entry for a „Nexx Y100" rated 5 stars out of 5 — tested August 2025, to ECE 22.06, at 1.6 kg.
The weight and the standard match this helmet. The size range does not: SHARP lists XS–XL, and the Y.100 runs XS–XXL. We therefore neither claim that rating nor dismiss it — the entry cannot be confidently matched to this exact helmet.
About the matt black finish
An urban helmet is handled constantly — on and off twice a day, carried by the chin bar, set down on desks and pillion seats — and a flat finish absorbs that low-level marking far better than gloss, because there is no clear coat for a scuff to catch in. Matt also suits the Y.100's shape, which is smoother and less decorated than most helmets at this price, showing the outline rather than drawing a highlight along it. 🔵 The trade is conspicuity: this is the less visible of the two Core finishes, on a helmet used mostly in city traffic. Matt is washed rather than polished — there is nothing to buff a mark out of.
Polyfusion, two shells and a double-EPS liner
The shell is Polyfusion thermoplastic, shaped through aerodynamic and wind-tunnel work for stability and sound damping at speed, in two outer shell sizes (XS–M / L–XXL).
Beneath it sits a double-EPS liner with an air chamber between the two shells. Approvals: ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015.
A wide eye port, X-SWIFT and two visors
The eye port is extra wide and the visor is optical class 1 with an anti-scratch coating. X-SWIFT changes it in under eight seconds without tools.
A Pinlock® 70 MaxVision anti-fog lens is included, and a second visor comes in the box — unusual at this price, where most helmets supply one and sell the rest.
The sun visor and its glove-friendly button
The internal drop-down sun visor filters 99 % of UV and is operated by a glove-friendly ergonomic button — the detail that decides whether a sun visor gets used or ignored.
🔵 It also removes any need for a tinted outer visor, and a fixed dark visor is not road-legal at night in most of Europe anyway.
A top intake, a chin vent and an air chamber
Ventilation is a large top intake and an efficient chin-vent system, feeding a double-EPS liner with an air chamber between the two shells — so warm, humid air is exchanged for incoming cool air rather than sitting against your scalp.
🔵 The air chamber is the part that does the work. A large intake without an internal path simply pushes air against the liner.
Interior, neck roll and retention
The interior is 3D-shaped, fully removable and washable, sweat-wicking and anti-allergic, in soft X-Mart Dry fabric. The thick neck roll is removable too, and it seals air from getting under the helmet — which is where most wind noise enters.
🔵 The cheek pads carry Emergency-Strap pulls so first responders can remove them without forcing the helmet past the jaw. Retention is a micrometric ratchet.
X-COM3 — developed with SENA
The X-COM3 system is set up to drop straight in, and it is developed with SENA — a Bluetooth 5.2 stereo headset with long-range intercom in a small form factor. The PRO version adds 2.0 Mesh networking and Harman Kardon sound.
🔵 Neither is supplied. Side action-camera mounts are built into the shell; the camera is separate too.
1575 grams, and the rest of the honest list
At 1575 g this is a substantial helmet for its size, and the reason is the shell material: a thermoplastic shell needs more of itself than a composite to reach the same strength.
🔵 The honest list: heavy for the class; two outer shell sizes rather than three; and no attributable safety rating, for the reasons set out above. In exchange, an equipment level well beyond the price.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
The Y.100 is the plainest full-face Nexx makes and the least expensive. Above it, the Y.100R is the same platform with a sport profile, a double-blade aero spoiler and graphics, at around 30–70 € more.
🔵 Below it in coverage, the Y.10 is the open-face jet — lighter and more open, with no chin bar at all.
When something wears out
Everything on this helmet that wears is separately available: visors, Pinlock lenses, cheek pads, the crown liner, the neck roll, chin-strap covers, the nose guard and the wind deflector.
🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks — and manufacturers recommend replacement after around five years regardless of condition.

“As a city helmet it is more than you need and heavier than ideal, but the crash-test result is exceptional for the money. If your commute includes fast roads, this is the one to take.”
