DescriptionThe whole story▼
This Mekarium colourway runs a mostly white front panel back into a black tail section, a sharp red accent cutting along the lower edge of the shell and across the chin bar. Shark's own price data labels the colour "Silver Red" (the supplier's own "Couleur BRI" field carries a typo reading "Carbbn" for "Carbon," left uncorrected here as a small honesty check rather than silently tidied up) -- the render shows white and red clearly; any silver sheen is closer to the carbon weave catching light than a distinct silver panel, worth saying since a colour claim should hold up against the photo, not just the spec sheet.
ECE 22.06: the same test, whatever the graphic
Before the colour claim gets sorted out below, the certification is straightforward: UNECE R 22-06, unchanged across this whole range. It struck more points on the shell than 22.05, tested each at several speeds, and brought in a rotational-force score the earlier rule did not have.
Shell construction under the paint
Shark categorises this shell under "Fibre": woven fiberglass combined with carbon, not a pure carbon-aramid build, in two separate moulds around EPS stepped across more than one density. It is a genuine step up in weight and stiffness from the plain-fibreglass Spartan GT Pro, without claiming to be the heavier material of a dedicated track shell.
1,465 g and the neck that carries it
The smaller of this helmet's two shells weighs 1,465 g by Shark's count; larger sizes use the second mould and carry slightly more. On a short ride that number is academic; across a full day it becomes real neck and shoulder fatigue, building gradually rather than announcing itself in the first few minutes.
Ventilation, and what genuinely shuts off
Three intakes at the front and two rear extractors move air through Shark's double-Venturi layout, designed to work below motorway speed rather than only above it. Visordown's independent test confirms both chin-bar vents and rear exhaust ports genuinely close, so the same shell runs open for summer heat and sealed for winter cold -- decent airflow, per the same test, not class-leading.
Visor: central lock, standard Pinlock, tint rules
This decor shares the VZ300 visor with the Spartan RS and Spartan RS Carbon. Optical class 1 glazing runs 2.8 mm to 2.2 mm through its profile, opened via a central grip with central locking, and comes with a clear Pinlock 120 insert fitted at the factory. Iridium blue, pink and red are cleared for daytime road use; smoke, silver and rainbow finishes are racing-only and not road-legal.
Everyday usability
A UV380 anti-fog internal sun visor operates from a single external slider, one-handed with gloves on. The mount is tool-free for cleaning or a tint swap, the shell has a groove for glasses arms, and this model is listed as compatible with Shark's own Sharktooth intercom and with SENA units.
Safety fitted, and safety not fitted
Firmness-graded EPS does the impact-absorbing work, and the strap closes with a double-D ring rather than a buckle that can loosen under load. Shark's own Emergency Release hardware frees the cheek pads without twisting an injured rider's neck -- functionally an EQRS. MIPS does not appear anywhere in Shark's documentation for this helmet, and none is claimed here.
Interior and cleaning
ALVEOTECH antimicrobial fabric lines the shell, shaped into 3D morphological cheek pads per Shark's own collection copy. Independent review confirms the pads, neck roll and skull cap all come out for a wash. Six sizes span XS to XXL over the two shell sizes used across the range.
The colour, checked against the render
Shark's own price data calls this decor "Silver Red," but the actual render shows a clean white front panel giving way to black at the rear with a red accent stripe -- the colour description is quoted honestly here, and the visual read is stated alongside it rather than silently overwritten, because a customer reading "Silver Red" and receiving a white-and-black helmet with a red accent deserves that flagged plainly.
Price position on the Spartan ladder
Four real steps make up Shark's own pricing: Spartan RS Fibre at entry level, Spartan RS Carbon above it, the non-carbon Spartan GT Pro with Sport-GT comfort but no carbon shell, and Spartan GT Pro Carbon on top. This decor sits in the middle of that top step -- above the plain Skin pair, below the Replica graphics.

Wind noise, stated honestly
No credible independent decibel figure exists for this helmet, so none is claimed. BikeSocial's road test of the 22-06 generation credits a tighter, elasticated neck roll built specifically against wind noise, at the cost of a slightly harder helmet to don; Visordown separately describes wind noise in normal use as kept to a relative minimum. Neither is a lab measurement, and neither is presented as one.
Spare parts
One shared Shark visor listing covers both the Spartan RS and the GT Pro; the Range Book shows the same VZ300 part sitting across three related Spartan models. A scratched visor is a spare part, not grounds for a new helmet.
Stated plainly, colour claim included
The "Silver Red" name on this decor does not fully match the render, as noted above -- worth repeating here rather than only once. No MIPS is fitted. SHARP's rated result, 4 stars from August 2021, names a separate, older Shark helmet with no "Pro" in its listing, and that score is not this one's.
