The standard every Ridill 2 answers to: ECE 22.06

Newly homologated helmets sold in the EU have needed ECE 22.06 since January 2024, a meaningfully stricter update to the previous ECE 22.05. Five impact points grew to eighteen. A single test speed became a range of them. The regulation added an oblique-impact test, sliding the shell across an abrasive surface to introduce twisting force that a straight drop test never could, and it now records rotational injury data alongside the older linear measurement. Testing takes place with everything mounted — visor, and Pinlock insert plus comms unit if fitted. Look at the shell and "2206" is what you'll find, with nothing else attached. Road homologation, nothing beyond it.

1,470 g: why the number outlasts the showroom feel

Shark quotes that figure for the smaller of two available shell sizes; a mid-range M on the larger shell generally weighs somewhat more. Visordown's own scale, with a size-M sample, read 1,474 g — near enough to the official number to rely on it. Handled briefly, that weight is unremarkable. Worn for a full day's riding, it becomes very real, because the neck alone bears it continuously, without any breaks. Across Shark's street-helmet range, weight generally falls between about 1,250 g and 1,800 g, and this helmet sits well under the middle of that.

Behind the print: shell, foam, closure

Set the graphic aside and this is standard Ridill 2 construction — a thermoplastic shell, "Thermoplastique" according to Shark's own paperwork and Lexan polycarbonate according to independent coverage, built in two shell sizes rather than one shell adapted to every head with extra padding. The EPS liner inside grades its density through different zones instead of staying uniform, and a micrometric ratchet buckle handles closure — fast, one-handed, glove-compatible, and precise about where it locks.

Ventilation that doesn't demand bare hands

Testing turned up three vents total: one at the chin, two at the crown on a shared control, two exhausts at the rear, and every single one works with gloves still on. Overall airflow was judged "more than adequate" for ordinary use. Fair to mention: the chin vent is angled toward the visor rather than the rider's face directly, so it's more about fog prevention than chin cooling.

The visor, in detail

Optical class 1, anti-scratch coated, and removable without any tools at all. It accepts a Pinlock 70 insert, though that insert isn't included — it's an extra purchase worth making if you're riding through cold or wet weather, since without it the visor can fog quickly once the vents are shut and breathing picks up. This colourway sits outside Shark's IRID photochromic lineup entirely; that programme currently covers only the Aeron GP, Aeron and Race R Pro, so a self-tinting visor here would need to come from the aftermarket.

Assya in pink: matching the name to the shell

Shark's own colour listing reads "Black Violet Violet" for this decor, but the shell in hand tells a slightly different story: the streaks are a bold, saturated hot pink, not a blue-leaning violet — magenta is genuinely the more accurate word for what's visible here. That's worth knowing before ordering on the colour name alone. The pattern itself fans outward from the crown in the same claw-mark style as the other Assya finish, just rendered in one strong tone instead of a multicolour blend, and a gloss clear-coat over the print holds up well against scratching while making fingerprints somewhat more visible than a matte surface would.

Small details worth knowing

A crown-slider sun visor drops internally without any need to stop riding. Cheek padding is shaped to give glasses arms room. The shell takes Sharktooth- or SENA-style comms hardware without modification. The outer visor comes free of the shell tool-free for a wipe-down or a full swap.

How sizing is actually built

Six sizes run from XS to XXL, but they're distributed across just two physical shell sizes rather than one shell reshaped for every head with more or less padding — which keeps the smallest helmets from looking bulky and the largest from feeling tight. Visordown's own test, in a size M, rated the fit "very good" and "extremely comfortable", called out the wide opening as easy to use, and reported a snug cheek fit with no pinching.

Where the price lands: Ridill 2, D-Skwal 3, Skwal Cup

209.99 euro buys this graphic decor — a step up from the 189.99-euro plain colours in the same line, and still the least expensive entry into Shark's full-face range as a whole. One tier above, the D-Skwal 3 starts at 219.99 euro and adds a wind-tunnel-developed shell along with more decor options. Another tier up again, the Skwal Cup opens at 269.99 euro with a CFD-shaped rear spoiler built for stability at higher speeds. Set against each other, those figures show exactly what extra money buys at every step.

An honest word on wind noise

No decibel measurement for this helmet has ever been published, and inventing a number would only create a false impression. What's actually available is Visordown's own account from real riding: "a quiet helmet to use at motorway speeds", paired with a standing recommendation to wear earplugs on longer journeys regardless, plus a note of mild buffeting at motorway speed that the tester called "not horrendous". Take that as a rider's genuine impression, not a scientific result — because no scientific result for this helmet has been made public anywhere.

Spare visors, should the need arise

The Ridill 2 appears by name in Shark's spare-visor range, alongside the Skwal Cup, D-Skwal 3 and Skwal i3, with seven visor finishes on offer — dark smoke, several iridium tints, and a clear Pinlock-ready option among them. A scratched or fogged screen just needs replacing, not the entire helmet.

What isn't included

To lay it out clearly: this helmet has no MIPS liner, no electronic quick-release system, and no Pinlock insert in the box — only the mounting for one. There's no chin skirt fitted, so expect noticeably more cold air at the neck than a touring-style helmet would allow. SHARP has tested a "Ridill 2" and awarded four stars against ECE 22.06, dated February 2025 — the right generation for this exact helmet — though that same SHARP listing also quotes a retail price of 549 pounds that clearly has nothing to do with what this helmet costs anywhere it's actually sold; best treated as an error on SHARP's page rather than a genuine number. There's no FIM racing homologation here and no rear spoiler fitted — a budget road helmet, priced and equipped accordingly.
