DescriptionThe whole story▼
Black shell with camel trim is the combination the X.Garage line is built around — dark and warm together, the way a leather jacket and a tan lining go together. It is the most-bought version of this helmet for a reason.
A Sixties silhouette on a 2026 shell
🔵 Worth checking on any classic-styled helmet you compare this with: which ECE revision it holds. A good number of retro jets are still sold against the superseded 22.05 standard, which involves fewer impact points and lower test speeds.
The X.G30 is certified to ECE 22-06 — more impact points, higher speeds, and additional requirements covering strap rotation and visors.
About the Groovy Black Camel finish
The contrast here is in temperature rather than in value: a cool black against a warm mid tan reads as two materials rather than two colours, which is exactly the effect a trimmed retro jet is aiming for. It also happens to be the most practical of the trimmed versions — the dark shell hides city road film far better than the white, so the helmet stays presentable while the trim carries the visual interest. 🔵 The camel trim will show wear before the shell does; it is in constant contact with your face and hands. Complete replacement linings in camel-black and black are available.
Six layers, three shells
🔵 A composite shell rather than a thermoplastic one is the main difference between this and Nexx's less expensive Y.10 jet, and it shows in the weight: 1320 g here against 1325 g there — almost identical, but the X.G30 has three shell sizes rather than two and a stiffer layup.
What you are really buying is the construction and the finish, not a weight saving.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
🔵 A helmet with a European approval mark can make it look as though all approvals are equivalent. They are not. ECE 22-06 certifies this helmet as a jet — a different test schedule applied to a shell with no chin bar.
What it is not is a lesser version of that schedule: this is the 2026 standard rather than the older 22.05.
The dark sun visor — and the clear one that is not there
A dark internal shield on a jet is unusual — most drop-downs are lightly tinted so they remain usable as the light fades. Nexx went darker for genuine glare protection, which is the right call in strong sun and the wrong one at dusk.
🔵 Retract it and your face is unprotected unless you have fitted an external visor. One is available separately in six finishes.
| External visor | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Clear | year-round use, night and rain — 🔴 not supplied with the helmet |
| 60 % tint | bright days without committing to full darkness |
| 80 % tint | strong summer sun — daylight only |
| Iridium red / green | mirrored, cuts glare — daylight only |
| Yellow HD | lifts contrast in flat, overcast and dusk light |
Interior, X-Mart Dry and the Ergo Padding System
Comfort on an open-face is decided at the edge rather than in the padding. The rim runs across your cheekbones and around your jaw, in full view and in constant contact — a hard or badly finished one is unbearable within twenty minutes.
🔵 Complete replacement linings are available in camel-black and black, so the trim can be changed as well as renewed.
The double-D ring
A double-D ring is the one part of a helmet that has not needed redesigning in fifty years, which on a helmet drawn from the Sixties is fitting rather than ironic. Two steel loops, one strap, no mechanism.
🔵 It is used across Nexx's entire X.Garage collection for consistency as much as for tradition.
1320 grams, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 Cold weather is this helmet's real limitation rather than noise or weight. There is no way to close the face opening and no ventilation to adjust; below about 10 °C a neck tube becomes essential rather than optional.
The X-Mart Dry liner adds some insulation on cold days, which helps at the margin.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
Compared with retro jets from other brands, the two questions worth asking are which ECE revision the helmet holds and how many shell sizes the range uses. A good number of classic-styled helmets are single-shell and still sold to the superseded 22.05.
🔵 The X.G30 is ECE 22-06 across three outer shell sizes.
Accessories and spare parts
🔵 The yellow HD visor is the accessory worth knowing about and the one nobody buys. It lifts contrast in flat, overcast and dusk light rather than darkening anything — which is the condition most riders find hardest and most visors do nothing for.
Alongside it: clear, 60 %, 80 %, iridium red and iridium green.
