DescriptionThe whole story

Outside is the standard graphic family on the Targo S, and C3 is its yellow — the most conspicuous helmet in a four-strong range that is otherwise built around red and white.

An entry sport full-face with two homologations

The Targo S is MT's entry-level sport full-face and the successor to the Targo Pro. MT states it exceeds both ECE 22.06 and DOT — dual homologation, which is more than most helmets in this class carry.

🔵 „Sport" here describes the shape and the intent rather than a track specification. This is a road helmet with a sporting silhouette, not a race helmet.

About the Outside C3 graphic

Yellow is the colour the human eye resolves fastest against a dull background, and dull backgrounds are exactly where motorcyclists are most often not seen: flat overcast light, wet tarmac, a driver at a junction with a fraction of a second to decide. On a sport helmet that argument is usually ignored in favour of livery, so it is worth pointing out that this one manages both. There is a thermal benefit alongside it on a helmet with no drop-down sun visor to shade your eyes: a bright shell reflects solar load that a dark one converts into interior heat. 🔵 The trade is ultraviolet. Saturated yellow pigment fades faster than dark colours, and a helmet left strapped to a bike through a summer will lose depth — keep it out of direct sun when parked, and never dry-wipe the gloss. Of the four finishes here it is the one we would choose for a helmet ridden year-round in traffic, simply because it is the most visible of them in the flat light Europe supplies for most of the year. Against the two replicas it also has the advantage of staying in the catalogue rather than running for a single season.

The sun visor this helmet does not have

🔵 The Targo S has no integrated sun visor. That is the clearest difference from most of MT's range, where models ending in SV — the Braker SV, the Thunder 4 R SV, the Jarama SV — all have one.

The answer here is a tinted visor or sunglasses, and MT-QVSS makes swapping visors a ten-second job. But you will be carrying two rather than flicking a lever.

HIRP and 1.5 kilograms

The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — a high-strength thermoplastic tuned for impact resistance relative to weight, at roughly 1.5 kg.

🔵 That is typical for a thermoplastic full-face and around 150–300 g more than a composite shell of equal strength would be. It is also why the helmet costs 119 € rather than 400.

MT-V-14B, MT-QVSS and the anti-fog insert you buy separately

The MT-V-14B visor — homologation number E9-06.6392 — runs on MT-QVSS, MT's quick visor swap system, which removes and refits it in seconds without tools.

🔵 It is ready for a Pinlock® DKS209 lens or a FogOff FOG003 / FOG017 insert. None of them is supplied, and on a year-round helmet that is the first accessory to buy.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

Retention is MT-Micrometric+ — a micrometric ratchet that fastens one-handed, adjusts in fine steps and works in gloves, which on a helmet fastened twice a day matters more than the theoretical advantages of a double-D ring.

🔵 Check the adjustment every few months; a ratchet has a set position that can drift.

Interior, fit and the five-size range

MT describes the interior as state-of-the-art, and the substance behind the phrase is that it is fully removable and washable — which on a helmet worn regularly is the single most useful maintenance feature there is.

🔵 Sizes run XS to XL — five sizes, narrower than most of MT's range, which goes to XXL or 3XL. Check your measurement before ordering.

Universal UCS intercom housing

The helmet has a universal UCS intercom housing — universal rather than tied to MT's own system, so the communicator you already own will fit.

🔵 No system is supplied. Check speaker depth as well as diameter before buying one; depth is what decides whether a speaker presses on your ear over a long ride.

What a rider replica is — and is not

Two of the four Targo S finishes are rider replicas — the Yamanaka 2025 and the Piqueras — and it is worth understanding what that does and does not mean.

🔵 Mechanically nothing changes. Same shell, same visor, same closure, same approvals as the standard graphics. A replica is a paint scheme with a licence behind it, and it is a perfectly good reason to choose one provided you know that is what you are buying.

Where it sits in MT's range

The Targo S is MT's entry sport full-face and sits alongside the Braker SV at a similar price. The difference is straightforward: the Braker SV has a drop-down sun visor and this one does not; the Targo S has the sportier shape.

🔵 Both are HIRP shells with ECE 22.06 and DOT approval, and neither has a SHARP rating.

When something wears out

Everything on this helmet that wears is available separately: the MT-V-14B visor, DKS209 Pinlock lenses, FogOff FOG003 / FOG017 inserts, cheek pads and the complete lining.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside.

“MCN ran it for six months and rated the value as incredible, and the visor mechanism is genuinely one of the best. Two things are missing: there is no sun visor, and one shell size covers every head — which is where the 1,550 g comes from.”
