Gloss grey is the most practical solid in the range and the one that needs the least attention over a few years of touring. It hides road film better than black or white and sits meaningfully above black in flat light.

A chin guard that opens — and the P/J question

The convenience is genuine and it is why touring riders keep returning to the format: glasses on and off without removing the helmet, a conversation at a fuel stop, a passport handed over at a border, air on your face in slow traffic.

🔵 MT does not document a P/J homologation, which is the certification that permits riding with the chin guard raised.

About the gloss grey finish

Value rather than colour decides both how dirty a helmet looks and how easily it is seen, and a mid grey sits at the useful point on that scale for both at once. Insect strike, road film and dried rain marks all show least here — they read as haze on black and as obvious marks on white. And a driver resolves a mid-value object against dark tarmac appreciably faster than a dark one. 🔵 On a flip-up, where the chin-guard seam collects dirt a fixed full-face does not have, that tolerance is worth more than usual.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 — and the weight MT does not publish

Full ECE 22.06 approval means the current schedule rather than the superseded 22.05: more impact points, higher test speeds, and a rotational-impact assessment the older standard did not include.

The integrated sun visor

If you wear prescription glasses, a drop-down shield is far more practical than prescription sunglasses or a tinted visor — it goes up and down without removing anything, which on a flip-up you are opening at every stop anyway.

The 935 visor and the Pinlock you buy separately

A wide field of vision is worth more on a modular than on a fixed full-face, because you spend part of the ride with the chin guard raised and the transition between the two views should not be jarring.

Interior, fit and intercom spaces

Retention is a micrometric system — quick, adjustable in fine steps and workable in gloves, which on a helmet fastened at every proper stop matters more than the theoretical advantages of a double-D ring.

🔵 Check the adjustment every few months; a ratchet's set position drifts with use.

The micrometric closure

🔵 Practise fastening it once with the gloves you actually ride in. A micrometric ratchet is the easiest closure to operate in gloves, but the strap length has to be set correctly first — and that is done bare-handed, once.

Correct tension: one finger under the strap with the helmet on, and no more.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 MT's range is unusually consistent: almost everything is built on the HIRP platform, with the carbon KRE+ S as the single exception. What changes between models is the body type and the equipment rather than the construction.

The Genesis R SV is the accessible modular in that range.

When something wears out

🔵 A word on visor care, because it prevents most of the visor sales we make. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.
