Core is the second graphic family and A5 is its grey-and-red reading — the most conventional-looking of the six graphics here, and the best of them at surviving a wet winter without looking neglected.

What this helmet is — honestly

The Stinger 2 is aimed at a specific rider: someone buying a first full-face, or a second helmet to keep at work or lend to a pillion. For both of those it is a genuinely sensible purchase.

🔵 For daily long-distance riding it is not the right tool — 1.6 kg and no sun visor add up over hours in a way they do not over a twenty-minute commute.

About the Core A5 graphic

Red against a mid grey ground is the pairing that survives dirt best in this range: road film and insect strike read as a haze on pale grounds and largely disappear on mid ones, so this version still looks presentable at the end of a wet week. The red also gives the helmet enough saturation to be seen against grey tarmac without going fluorescent. 🔵 Under a matt finish it holds handling marks well and dry dust less well; red pigment is the element that fades first under sustained UV.

HIRP and ECE 22.06

🔵 Compare this against a composite helmet honestly. A fibreglass shell of equal strength would be 150–300 g lighter and cost three times as much; carbon more again. That is the entire argument, and it is legitimate in both directions.

The Stinger 2 is HIRP at roughly 1.6 kg.

The sun visor this helmet does not have

Two ways to deal with bright light on this helmet, and both involve carrying something. Sunglasses under the clear visor, or the optional smoked visor swapped in before you set off.

🔵 Neither is as convenient as a lever. Both are cheaper than the helmet that has one.

MT-V-28B, MT-QVSS and the Pinlock you buy separately

🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries. With no internal sun shield to fall back on, that means carrying the clear visor whenever the ride might end after dark.

Swapping takes seconds through MT-QVSS, which is the one thing that makes the arrangement workable.

The MT-MDTC closure

Every closure component on a helmet at this price is a cost decision, and MT chose to put a double-tooth micrometric ratchet on the Stinger 2 rather than a simpler buckle.

🔵 That is one of several places where this helmet is better specified than its price suggests — alongside tool-free visor changes and a machine-washable lining.

Interior, fit and washing

An entry-level helmet is often a first helmet, and a first helmet gets worn more than any other — every journey, every weather, often without much thought about maintenance.

🔵 A machine-washable hypoallergenic lining is the specification that copes with that. Wash it a few times a season and the helmet stays pleasant to put on.

Universal UCS intercom slot

🔵 The most common reason riders abandon an intercom is a speaker pressing on the ear over a long day, and it is almost always a depth or positioning problem rather than a fault of the system.

This helmet has pockets sized for the job and a universal slot for the unit. Both are provision rather than product — nothing is included.

Where it sits in MT's range

Buying a Pure version rather than a graphic saves 8 € and changes nothing else — same HIRP shell, same MT-QVSS visor, same MT-MDTC closure, same washable lining.

When something wears out

🔵 Keep a spare clear visor if you run the optional smoked one. With no internal sun shield, a dark visor commits you for the whole ride — and swapping back at the roadside is a ten-second job only if the clear one is in your luggage.
