Dark blue with grey under a matt finish is the quietest Layout and the most practical finish in the whole Cosmo SV range. It hides everything a city throws at a helmet and still sits above black in flat light.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

The useful way to choose is by where you actually ride rather than by which helmet is theoretically safest. In town, on a scooter or a small motorcycle, on short journeys made several times a day, an open-face is the helmet that gets worn rather than left on a shelf.

🔵 At sustained speed or over distance it is the wrong tool — no chin bar, and considerable wind noise.

About the Layout C7 graphic

Deep blue is consistently under-chosen on helmets and it is the most practical coloured finish available. Fine road film reads as a grey haze against black and as an obvious film against pale colours; against navy it largely disappears, which on a helmet washed occasionally rather than religiously matters over the whole ownership period. Matt on top of that absorbs the handling marks a jet accumulates at every stop. 🔵 Conspicuity sits above the blacks and well below the neon Arrow — worth a thought if your commute runs into the dark half of the year. Matt is washed rather than polished.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

The claim MT makes about this helmet is unusual and worth reading precisely: it was designed to surpass ECE 22.06 even with all accessories installed, including the UCS MT-Rider Sync intercom.

MT-ESP — a full-coverage sun visor on a jet

If you wear prescription glasses, a drop-down shield is far more practical than prescription sunglasses or a tinted visor — it goes up and down without removing anything, which on a helmet taken on and off at every stop is worth a great deal.

🔵 The Cosmo SV's is full-coverage rather than partial, under MT's MT-ESP programme.

The MT-V-37 visor and the patented MT-QVSS

Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

🔵 Wet it first, every time. MT-QVSS makes replacing a scratched visor a ten-second job when the time comes.

Active ventilation and the removable rear deflector

🔵 The colour-matched vent pieces are a finish detail rather than a functional one, and they are the reason this helmet looks more expensive than it is. On the plain grey and white versions they read as a deliberate design element rather than as black plastic on a coloured shell.

Functionally: front intakes, rear exhaust, removable deflector.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

What a micrometric closure gives you over a simple buckle is fine adjustment. You are not choosing between two holes; you are setting the strap to the millimetre and clicking to the same place every time.

🔵 MT-Micrometric+ guarantees at least two teeth engaged, which is what makes that click mean something.

Interior, fit and intercom preparation

Fit is the specification that matters most and the one no description settles for you. On a jet a badly fitting helmet shows itself faster than on a full-face, because there is no chin bar spreading the load across your head.

🔵 Try it on and keep it on for ten minutes. A helmet you can rotate on your head by hand is too big, whatever the tape says.

A jet is the easiest helmet type to hold a conversation in without any electronics at all, which is worth remembering before buying an intercom for one — at city speeds you can simply talk to the person next to you.

🔵 Where it earns its place is navigation and calls. The Cosmo SV carries a UCS MT-Rider Sync pre-installation.

The weight figure, and the rest of the honest list

Cold weather is a demi-jet's real limitation rather than noise or weight. There is no way to close the face opening; below about 10 °C a neck tube becomes essential rather than optional.

🔵 In its season, at MT's quoted 1.5 kg, it is among the most pleasant helmets you can wear in traffic.

Where it sits in MT's range

Against MT's cheaper jets the difference is equipment rather than shell. The Street S at 47 € and the Viale SV S at 72 € use the same HIRP construction with less of everything else.
