DescriptionThe whole story▼

Johann Zarco has taken two wins at the Suzuka 8 Hours, the endurance classic held at one of Japan's most demanding circuits, and this decor marks that result with a graphic built around it: bold black-and-white brushstroke marks sweeping across the shell, the number 51, and a small tricolour flag detail, with the Shark wordmark picked out in red along the side. Unlike the Signature 2026 decor's geometric stars, this one reads as motion — loose, calligraphic strokes rather than a symmetric pattern.

Endurance racing and open-air aerodynamics

Underneath the brushstroke graphic is a fin Shark put through its own wind-tunnel testing for this specific open-face shape — necessary precisely because a jet shell has no sealed chin bar up front to keep air from separating off the back edge at speed. Left alone, that air would drag and buffet at the rider's neck through a fast corner; the fin gives it a defined way out instead. That is the real engineering this Suzuka tribute sits on top of, not an afterthought added once the graphic was finished.

Shell and closure

Lexan polycarbonate, moulded in two separate shell sizes — XS-M and L-XXL, per independent press coverage of this model — and closed with a micrometric buckle rather than the double-D ring fitted to the full-face Skwal Cup.

What ECE 22.06 actually tests, on an open face

A quick, honest read of what ECE 22.06 covers: mandatory across the EU for newly homologated helmets since January 2024, it tests eighteen impact points at a range of speeds, versus the five points at one speed that the older 22.05 standard required. It introduces an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil — a twisting, glancing hit, closer to a real slide than a straight drop — and scores rotational energy through a Brain Injury Criterion the old test did not have. Visor, Pinlock and comms unit are all tested fitted. This model's Norme code is 2206, with no FIM suffix: road approval only.

1,430 g, unaffected by the graphic

Shark's figure is 1,430 g (+/-50 g) for the smaller of the two shell sizes. That weight is carried through every head movement across a full ride, not absorbed once in an impact — a figure that matters over an eight-hour stint on a bike as much as it does on a commute.

Ventilation

The ventilation system is two intakes and two extractors, working with the shell's open front rather than around a sealed one. No chin bar means no detour for the airflow — a short, direct path that suits a helmet built for sport and street riding rather than for sealed-cabin touring.

Visor and Pinlock

This helmet takes the VZ670 visor — Optical Class 1 rated, side-locking, anti-scratch treated, with a vortex generator at its edge — the same family fitted to the plain Skwal Jet and the LED-equipped Skwal i3 Jet. It ships with a Max Vision Pinlock 70 insert pre-fitted and tension-adjustable. Only the clear tint is road-legal for all riders; every iridium and dark-smoke option Shark sells for this shell is racing use only.

Sun visor and everyday use

The internal sun visor operates independently of the main visor and drops down when needed; the interior itself leaves clearance for glasses, avoiding the temple pinch some competitors are known for. SENA intercom compatibility is named directly for this model.

Fit: what six sizes across two shells means

Sizing runs across six options, XS to XXL, built on two shell moulds rather than one: smaller for XS-M, larger for L-XXL. That two-shell approach is what keeps fit and weight sensible at both ends of the size range, not compromised toward one end to save tooling costs.

Wind noise, honestly

No jet helmet, this one included, matches a full-face for quiet at speed: there is no chin bar, and the visor's lower edge sits nearer the jaw. The spoiler and the visor's vortex generator both work against turbulence, but that basic difference in shape remains. Shark has not published a decibel rating for this model, and this text does not supply one.

Price ladder

The same top-tier price as every other named-rider replica in this range.

Skwal Jet same VZ670 visor family, no rear spoiler
Skwal Jet Cup this helmet
Skwal Cup same spoiler and CFD-developed shell, full-face
Skwal i3 Jet open face, adds an LED brake light this helmet does not have

Spares

Sourcing a replacement visor is straightforward: this helmet, the plain Skwal Jet and the Skwal i3 Jet all draw from the same Shark spares collection, built around the shared VZ67005PINCTU Pinlock 70 part.

What this helmet does not protect

The absence of a chin bar is the defining trade-off of this helmet, as it is for any jet design. A front or low-side impact that would load a full-face's chin section meets nothing equivalent here. ECE 22.06 tests the shell, the retention system and the visor as fitted, not protection the open-face shape does not provide by design — a distinction worth understanding clearly before choosing this over a full-face.

About the brushstroke graphic

The black-and-white strokes are laid over a gloss white base rather than the matte finishes common elsewhere in this line, giving the brush marks a harder, more defined edge, with the red Shark wordmark providing the only strong colour accent and a small tricolour flag detail marking Zarco's own nationality within the design.

Who this decor suits

The Suzuka tribute suits a rider drawn to endurance racing specifically, rather than Grand Prix sprint racing — a different kind of achievement to mark than the Signature 2026 decor's Grand Prix-weekend framing, and a visually distinct graphic language (brushstrokes rather than geometric stars) to go with it. The white base underneath the brushstrokes also sets this decor apart visually from the rest of the Jet Cup range, where black and navy bases dominate — a genuinely different look for a rider who wants a replica but not another dark helmet. Two wins at one of endurance racing's toughest circuits is a specific, checkable achievement rather than a general career highlight, and this decor marks that result rather than gesturing vaguely at Zarco's career as a whole the way a generic number-51 graphic might. It is a graphic built around a result, not a rumour.
