DescriptionThe whole story

Nippon is the graphic family that references Japanese design directly, and the white version is the most conspicuous helmet in the Y.100R range. On a helmet used in traffic, that is a specification rather than a preference.

The SHARP rating this helmet does not have

🔵 Worth stating plainly on a helmet at this price, where riders reasonably look for reassurance: the Y.100R has no SHARP rating. The five-star result circulating under a near-identical name belongs to the separate Nexx Y100 entry, listed in sizes XS–XL.

The certifications it does hold — ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC, NBR — are genuine and current.

About the Nippon White graphic

A white helmet at head height is the single brightest object a rider carries, and it sits above the headlight where an approaching driver's eye actually scans. Urban riding is where a motorcyclist is least expected and most often looked through, and that is precisely where a pale shell earns its keep. There is a thermal benefit alongside it — white reflects solar energy a dark shell converts into interior heat, which matters on a helmet with only two intakes. 🔵 The cost is dirt: road film, insects and rain marks all show sooner on this than on anything else in the range.

Polyfusion, two shells and dual-EPS

The Polyfusion shell was developed with aerodynamic and wind-tunnel study aimed at two things at once: stability at speed, and sound damping. The measured noise result — around 100 dB, scored 4/5 — suggests the second worked.

🔵 Two outer shell sizes, dual-EPS liner, ECE 22-06 and three further market approvals.

X-SWIFT — a visor change in under eight seconds

Iridium visors are the most misunderstood option on any helmet. The mirror finish reduces transmitted light and glare, and it is a daylight item only — it does not become clear at dusk the way a photochromic visor does.

🔵 With X-SWIFT that is less of a commitment than usual: swapping back to clear takes under eight seconds.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

A fixed tinted visor commits you for a whole ride. A drop-down shield does not, and on a helmet used for commuting in both directions of a day that difference decides whether you can wear it at all.

🔵 This one filters 99 % of ultraviolet and operates from an external, glove-friendly button on the shell.

Double-blade spoiler and how quiet it measures

Noise fatigue is cumulative over a riding day in a way a single measurement cannot convey, and 3 dB is a doubling of sound energy rather than a small step. A helmet at around 100 dB is meaningfully less tiring over six hours than one at 103.

🔵 The independent score was 4 out of 5.

Two intakes, and a zero-degree measurement

Two intakes is a modest count and the result is not. That gap between specification and outcome is the most interesting thing about this helmet's ventilation, and it is the reason we quote the measurement rather than the vent count.

🔵 Independent road test: 0 °C interior-to-ambient delta, ventilation scored 4 out of 5.

Interior, retention and fit

The interior is X-Mart Dry throughout — a soft, moisture-managing fabric treated to be anti-allergic and anti-bacterial — with a thick neck roll and removable chin-strap covers.

🔵 Fit is intermediate-to-round oval. If long-oval helmets have pinched your forehead before, this one may not.

Around 1.6 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 Manufacturer helmet weights are quoted for a specific size, usually the smallest in the shell. The ±50 g tolerance Nexx states here is more honest than most, and the measured 1617 g in size M sits inside it.

Expect the larger shell — L to XXL — to weigh more again.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

Where this helmet sits against Nexx's adventure range is simple — it does not. The X.RALLY and X.WED3 have peaks, goggle provision and off-road capability; the Y.100R has none of that and is a road helmet throughout.

🔵 It is also, on the independent measurements, quieter and better ventilated than either of them.

Comms, camera and spare parts

🔵 Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare part on any helmet and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with wear and solve a hot spot that would otherwise mean a different helmet entirely.

Genuine Nexx pads for the Y.100R are stocked, along with crown pads and neck rolls.

“Built around its airflow: a big top intake, a dual EPS chamber that actually routes the air, and owners who report it staying bearable above 30 degrees. The weight is the trade, and 1,575 g is on the heavy side of this list.”
